mouth to continue their life, development and

Two concepts are confused! Food Security and
Food Safety ...
�Food Security; as a natural right of people to achieve
healthy living at a fair price, healthy, adequate, nutritious
and access to safe food.
�Food Safety; are all measures will be taken to dispose
physical, chemical, biological, and any hazardous effects in
foods offered for consumption.

Turkish Food Legislation develops with relations in EU integration
period
�No. 560 dated June 28, 1995 " Decree Law Concerning Food
Production, Consumption and Inspection " / In 1 Jan uary 1996, came
into effect before the Customs Union Agreement.
�No. 5179 dated June 5, 2004 "Law About Accepting Th e Change of
Decree Law Concerning Food Production, Consumption and
Inspection" / 3 October 2005, preparatory to the fo rmal start of
membership negotiations.
�"Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food and Feed L aw" was adopted
on June 13, 2010, and was one of the preconditions for the opening of
Negotiations on EU Legislation Chapter 12.

Ensuring food safety in our country now include the three
Ministries.
� The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs,
� The Ministry of Health,
� The Ministry of Interior (Municipalities, Special P rovincial
Administrations).
When "Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food and F eed
Law" come into effect in 13 December 2010, this c onfusion
would end!

Full EU membership for Turkey is a modernization
project. It is important for us as becoming EU memb er,
among many opportunities will be captured by the
change with the momentum of this process ,ensuring
complete food safety.
