Global Standards Management Process
Traceability around the world
GS1 Malaysia - The Malaysia Food Information and Traceability (M-FIT) Project The MFIT Project is a Malaysian Information Hub which links the entire food supply chain from farms right to the consumers. This pilot has been launched in three agriculture sub-sectors: starfruit farming, and prawn and poultry breeding.
GS1 Hungary publishes book on traceability A book entitled “Traceability through Global Standards” was published by GS1 Hungary. The publication contains essential information and concrete case studies for Hungarian companies.
Beijing Olympic Games Provide Food Traceability Using GS1 Standards As they prepare to host the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in August 2008, the Chinese government is working in cooperation with GS1 China on food safety
Using traceability to fight counterfeit pharmaceuticals A pilot project in Switzerland involving actors from all points of the healthcare supply chain is set to study using GS1 traceability standards to fight counterfeiting.
Demo puts the supply chain in the driver's seat To increase awareness and understanding of the benefits of standards in the fresh produce supply chain, GS1 Netherlands and long-time partners Frug I Com and AIM Netherlands created an innovative demo.
French study shows clear business benefits to traceability programs Beyond ensuring consumers' safety and respecting laws, a recent study commissioned by GS1 France has unequivocally demonstrated that food supply chain traceability programs lead to measurable business benefits and return on investment.
GS1 Egypt leads agro-food industry with traceability solution GS1 Egypt cooperated with the Egyptian national center for agro food traceability (E Trace) funded by The United Nations Industrial Development (UNIDO) to assist Egyptian farmers and exporters implement traceability and comply with the requirements of the EU regulation no. EC178/2002.
Global Standards Management Process
Traceability
• Is a business process that supports various business needs : • recalls, product quality/HACCP, anti-counterfeiting, logistics
visibility, regulatory requirements…
• Can be be achieved with various technologies : • barcodes, RFID, EDI, networks, mobile…
Global Standards Management Process
GTS – GS1 Global Traceability Standard
• GS1 Global Traceability Standard• Business process description
• Requirements for traceability systems
• Framework for industry specific requirements and guidelines
• GS1 Healthcare and Fresh Produce are adopting GTS • Adapting / validating requirements
• Specifying technology capabilities for the sector
• Developing specific implementation guidelines
Global Standards Management Process
GS1 Traceability Solution
• Program to help GS1 Member Organizations to support users along the implementation path
Educational material Implementation material & conformance program Case studies and marketing material
• Shows how to use all GS1 standards supporting traceability in the business context (GTS, GS1 128, EPCIS…)

Global Traceability Conformance
Global Standards Management Process
GS1 GTC – What are we building?
• Develop a Global Conformance Programme: • Methodology, technical criteria and technical documents
• Based on the GS1 Traceability Standard (GTS)
• Compliant with ISO 22005
• Optional : additional requirements (BRC, SQF, IFS, HACCP…)
• Used for :• Self-assessment
• Audit by GS1 MOs and third parties/ possibility of GS1 Seal
• Benefits :• Facilitate GTS adoption
• Ensure the right implementation
• Provide the possibility to: Define a Minimum Traceability level for every actor of the chain Have an international independent party for traceability reference and recognition Address the main international traceability regulations, standards bodies and
commercial requirements.
