students the opportunity to network with industry professionals via guest speakers, plant tours, and APICS, DMA, & ASQ events.
Target Tour
OMS Students had the opportunity to visit Target's Distribution Center in Rialto, CA to explore their current operations. The cohort of students
were led by a Cal Poly Pomona Alumni who currently works at the facility. The tour allowed students to understand an entire distribution center operation with the use of automation and other techniques that improve efficiency.

Semester Conversion
Cal Poly Pomona will be converting to a semester system beginning in the Fall of 2018. If you are graduating next Fall or
at a later time, make sure to get academic counseling at the Student Success Center! This will ensure you have a smooth transition into the semester system. The Student Success Center will be extremely busy in the next few weeks, so it's recommended that you get your counseling as soon as you can! The Student Success Center can be found in 164-1060 and is open Monday – Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Global Supply Chain Student Challenge
OMS students formed a total of 4 teams to compete in the Global Student Challenge! The Global Student Challenge is a worldwide competition where students must find solutions to complex supply chain issues. Last year, Cal Poly Pomona's team placed 4th globally and had the opportunity to compete in The Netherlands! The current 4 teams have a 3 month period where they must qualify in order to move forward within the competition. Good luck to this year's participants!

The teams will compete throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, with a final presentation to Target executives in Spring 2018.

Career Corner – Summer Internships
Phone: 909-869-2453Email: Conner Martin
Summer internships are an essential part to securing a high paying job when you graduate. Having experience coupled with a bachelor's degree will make you an extremely competitive applicant for most entry-level positions.
You may be asking yourself... "How do I get an internship? I don't have any experience!". The best way to get experience before beginning an internship is to get involved with your department and academic clubs. This shows your future employer that you are dedicated, self-motivating, and eager to get involved. It's also a great conversation starter when you're giving your elevator pitch at the career faire. Don't forget to
include all of your extracurricular experience on your resume. If you do not have a resume or if you would like your resume reviewed, the career center is an excellent resource located in building 97.
Now that you have relevant extracurriculars and experience, you can start applying to some internships!
Make sure to apply as early as possible. Several large companies begin the interview process at the beginning of each academic year, while others may begin this process towards the end of the year. Starting early allows you to increase your chances of obtaining an interview and securing your first internship! Make sure to check out the jobs and internships section of the newsletter. This is a great place to start your search!
