TOLMIE & DISTRICT RURAL FIRE BRIGADE
Please be aware that when burning off there is still a risk that a fire can "overachieve". Please ensure the area around the burn pile is clear, the wind is notexcessive and you have the means to extinguish anything burning if necessary.
It is important that any burning off is monitored until it is wholly out - if it is too hotto place your hand in it, then it's not out!
It is also important to register your burn with Book a Burn - 1800 668 511. There isalso a form you can email to register your burn off - seewww.cfa.vic.gov.au/contact/register-your-burn-off/ .
Registering with Book a Burn saves unnecessary call outs by the brigade so evenif you are only burning off a small heap please register it.
Check your chimneys and have them cleaned before winter and make sure youare burning dry firewood in your stoves and heaters. Insufficiently dried firewoodcauses creosote to form in your chimney which can block your chimney orcause a chimney fire.
Make sure your smoke alarm is less than 10 years old and has a fresh batteryinstalled.
Remember to contact Chuck if youwould like us to visit your property. Suchvisits are to work with you to helpdevelop life saving Fire Plans and togive you information how to prepare forthe next fire season. We would prefer todo these visits prior to the fire season.
Brigade meetings will not be held overthe Winter period.
Please remember to call 000 in the caseof a fire or smoke sighting or any otheremergency. Calling brigade membersdirectly to report a fire or a smoke sighting can waste valuable time which couldmake a huge difference.
For all other CFA enquiries, please call Rob (5776 2178), Greg (5776 2174), Chuck(5776 9514) or Meg (5776 2178).
