Think Differently
How can a simple, uneventful task like cutting a piece of paper produce quite surprising outcomes, just by introducing a small twist? In this workshop we will explore how we can expand our creative possibilities by shifting the way we habitually do things.
The activities in this workshop are sure to stretch your mind and they make for a great workshop to lead with youth.

Warm Up ActivityWarming-up the imagination and the body with movement and visualization
“I’d like to invite you to stand up. If possible, make some space around you to walk. Focus on your breath.
Let’s take a deep breath all together. Hold for 3. And breath-out. And another one.
Breath-in. Focus your attention on your shoulders. And as you breath-out allow your shoulders to release any tension.
Breath-in. Focus on your shoulders, breath-out and relax your shoulders a bit more.
There is a sandy beach around you. Imagine you are walking with bare feet on a sandy beach. It is summer and the sun is hot. The sand is very hot. Your feet are burning. You run with quick steps towards the sea.
You have just reached the edge of the water and the wet sand under your feet is now refreshingly cool.
You can relax and enjoy the cool wet sand under your feet. Keep your legs straight and reach with your hands down to touch the sand, feel it with your hands. Keep breathing. And with each breath-out, allow your body to softly stretch further down.
Slowly stand upright again. Now it is evening. You look up. And you see the first stars appearing in the sky.
Let’s try to reach for the stars and touch them. Lift your arms. And try to reach for the stars by stretching your left arm up.
And now your right arm. And again. (3x)
And allow your arms to rest back down by your body.
Now it is springtime. You take a walk in the park. Nature is at its best. Walk to your favorite spot. As you stroll to your favorite spot, you notice a beautiful, blossoming tree. Approach it. Listen to the gentle breeze moving its leaves. Take a closer look at the flowers. Smell them. Touch them. And lift your gaze to observe the whole park.
Let’s all take a deep breath together.
And bring your attention back to the room.
And now you can return to your seat.”

Sharing Handwork on Zoom using a MirrorIn the pictures below, Themis shows how he used freestanding, adjustable bathroom mirror in front
of his webcam so that we could all see the project as he worked on it on the desk in front of him. The angle of the mirror was adjustable.
