Every year, Parish Nurse Ministry has a special focus on giving for our Summer months.
This opportunity will be to help Jeff Leonard. Jeff is a member of our congregation who has
faced many health issues. In 2005, his health began to fail at the young age of 35. He developed
Neuropathy resulting in ulcers and his feet began to deform. Jeff has been unable to work.
By the age of 37 in 2007, he had to begin Dialysis.
Jeff received a kidney transplant in 2010. After 3 days the doctors informed him that the
transplant was not successful. The kidney was not healthy and he developed a severe infection,
spending many weeks in the hospital.
Jeff was placed on the transplant list again. Because of being on disability and changes in
criteria, he was removed from the transplant list. To be reinstated on the transplant list, Jeff needs to
show a balance of $5000.00 in an account to pay for anti rejection meds that will need to be taken
after receiving his transplant.
Helping Hands Ministry has kicked off the Campaign with a gift of $500.00. We are reaching out
to our church family to help make this dream a reality! As Jeff stated “ I am now living day to day
praying for a miracle. I know that God does not put more on me than I can bear. I just keep
the faith and pray!”
Please join us in giving Jeff the chance to live a life without Dialysis! You can make your checks
out to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. In the memo line note “HH Jeff Leonard.” Please place your
cash donations in an envelope marked the same. We will keep you up to date on our progress!
In His Name, Jill Earnhardt, RN Parish Nurse
We are very thankful that Thrivent has approved supplemental funding of $500.00 if we raise
at least $1,000.00 through loose offerings on 7/26/2015 and 8/2/2015 (including proceeds of the
Men's Group annual fish fry to be held on 9/10/2015).

participated in a YouthWorks Mission Trip in
Daytona, FL. Our youth are excited to share
their experiences with the congregation on
Sunday, August 23, during the worship service.
GOING AWAY TO COLLEGE?
Many of our young people will be going off
to college, the military, or job related training
this fall, and we would like to keep in touch
with them to let them know that their church
still cares about them when they are away.
When you have an address available, please
call or bring it by the church office and share it
with us. We will send bulletins and
newsletters to our young people who desire
them in order to keep them informed with what
is happening in their church.
LUTHERAN WOMEN’S
AUGUST PROJECT
Our August project is to buy school
supplies for Elizabeth Koontz Elementary
School. Salisbury Rowan County cut
$400,000.00 in instructional supplies which
would be divided amongst all schools. So,
schools are hurting-let us do all we can for
these needy students.
The most needed items are: wide rule loose
paper, #2 pencils, book bags, crayons,
markers, 3 ring binders, glue sticks, 70 sheet
wide rule composition books, erasers, child
scissors, pencil pouches, Kleenex .
Boxes are at the entrance to the Fellowship
Hall and the entrance to the Sanctuary to place
your donations.
If there are any children from St. Paul's who
needs school supplies please contact the
church office and the Lutheran Women will fix
them a school bag also.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
September starts a new Sunday School (SS)
year. We are in need of some teachers in the
Nursery and Kindergarten classes. We also
need teachers to take a Sunday a month in the
adult department. Please prayerfully consider
if you could fill one of these needs. Contact
Ben Bernhardt (704 637-0155) or Bonnie
Hinson (704 279-3126) for information or to
volunteer.
Currently our SS attendance is around 105
per Sunday. We found some old records in the
office recently that showed our SS attendance
in the 1970’s to be at 325 per Sunday!! If you
are not participating in SS, I believe you are
missing a great opportunity to grow your faith
and get to know your fellow members. We
have a class for any age. See you at Sunday
School!

ST. PAUL’S TO HOST
CLASSICAL CONVERSATIONS HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM
St. Paul’s Council has approved and we are excited that St. Paul’s will host the Classical
Conversations homeschool program during the coming year! Approximately 40 students, their
teachers and parents will use our facilities each Thursday from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm. After a
morning group gathering in the fellowship hall, classrooms in the educational building will be
utilized through the afternoon.
Classical Conversations supports homeschooling parents by cultivating the love of learning
through a Christian worldview in fellowship with other families.
Classical Conversations Mission Statement
We believe that every child is uniquely and wonderfully made and that parents can be the
best teachers for their children. Through our Foundations, Essentials and Challenge
programs, we support parents and students along the journey of homeschooling.
Classical Conversations Christian World View
The true purpose of education is to know God fully through our studies of His creation and
to build the skills needed to make Him known to the world.
Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all
your soul, and with all your mind.’— Matthew 22:37 (NKJV)
When we study with the purpose of knowing God more fully through a subject, we are
loving God with our minds. When we see God’s hand in history or science, or discover His
wonderful complexity and grace, we love Him even more.
This is a wonderful opportunity to be better stewards of our property while making a difference in
the lives and education of these young people. To learn more about Classical conversations, or if
you know someone who would benefit from this structured homeschool program visit:
www.classicalconversations.com.
