Dear Friends,
As you can see on our front page, in February we will learn all about Impossible Prayer. Our point is NOT that prayer
is impossible, but that prayer can do what seems to be impossible to us. We will focus on developing our prayer life
and overcoming the obstacles that can keep us from praying as much as we would like to - or as much as we need to!
In addition, our Breakthrough Prayer Team will have several new prayer adventures to help get us excited about
prayer and praying for our community.
Because prayer is as important today as it ever has been. We are living in a time of great turmoil and distress, in the
world, in our lives and even in our church. We know what’s going on in the world. Government that is in turmoil,
dictators around the world abusing their own citizens, human trafficking at an all-time high and poverty that seems as
worse as it’s ever been among so many other issues. Many of our families are dealing with illnesses or relational
turmoil, even financial and addiction issues.
So we need to be in a season of dedicated prayer. During this series, I am going to challenge the people of Trinity
United Methodist Church to pray, in earnest, every day. If that is not a habit of yours, or if it needs to be enhanced, I
have found a resource for you, from Max Lucado. These 40 days of prayers will take you 4 minutes a day and can lead
to a lifetime habit of daily prayer. So download the challenge - FREE - and follow it for the 4 weeks of this study. Go
to: faithgateway.com/prayer-challenge-before-Amen/ and they will email you a copy of the challenge (we’ll put a link
on our web page, too).
In addition, I am asking you to be in a season of prayer for our beloved United Methodist Church. As many of you
know, our world-wide church will be meeting in what we call the General Conference February 23-26, 2019 in St.
Louis, Missouri to make a decision on the church’s stance on human sexuality, specifically the church’s stance on the
level of inclusion of people who are LGBTQ. Bishop Palmer has called all United Methodists in the West Ohio
Conference to be in prayer throughout this season, you can see a copy of his video on our webpage, trinityvw.org.
Scroll down the front page and click on the image to play.
Wherever you are on this issue, whatever your stance, please pray. Every day. That God’s spirit might do what today
seems impossible - to bring peace and resolution to the United Methodist Church. These men and women from
around the world, elected by churches through their Annual Conferences, will set the future of our church. Please
pray that God would bring them the wisdom, understanding and grace that we need them to have for these few days.
One last word before I go. I have a deep appreciation for all those in the church who have had such a huge heart for
those in need in the past few weeks of bitterly cold and winter-y weather. Through their efforts, we have been able to
provide a warm place for those who have no place to go and have supported the efforts of other churches to do the
same. Others of you have been disrupted by the weather and have shown your dedication to the church in your
efforts. Thank you. You have made God happy by the way you have loved each other and your neighbors in our
community. Well done.
See you in church!
Pastor Kurt

Mission News
Getting to Know Those That We Support Last month we focused on the organizations that you supported through your mission offering in 2018 and will likely continue to support in 2019. This month we will focus on the missionaries that you supported in 2018 and will likely support again in 2019. If you don’t see a missionary that you think is deserving of our support, it only means that there was no support given through the church in 2018. At any time, you may designate your mission offering to a missionary of your choice, regardless of whether he/she is listed, as long as you let us know how to properly direct the money that you give.
Steve and Bonnie Aldrich One Challenge International – Colorado Springs, CO
Steve and Bonnie Aldrich have been serving with OC International since 1973. They are involved in training young leaders and missionaries, particularly by conducting Lifeworkx events throughout the world. Lifeworkx is a self-discovery based experience focusing on how well people know themselves and how well they work with others. Steve and Bonnie have two adult daughters, Amy and Kristin.
Amy Bromberg Cru/Athletes in Action – Springboro, OH
Amy Bromberg ministers to athletes and coaches from the seven universities in the 937 area code: Wright State U., Wittenberg U., Central State U., Wilberforce U., Wilmington College, Sinclair Community College, and the U. of Dayton. Her mission is to build spiritual movements in every athletic department that will impact the campus, community, and world for Christ. Amy’s husband, Jason, is a teacher in the Springboro Community School District.

Matt’s siblings are Rachel, David, and Jonathan.

Chad and Andi Irwin
Mission Aviation Fellowship – Nampa, ID Chad and Andi Irwin have served with MAF since 1999. During their 15 years of living and working in Shell, Ecuador, Chad served as the chief pilot, and Andi worked at the Nate Saint Memorial School where their children attended. During the latter part of their ministry in Ecuador, Chad was instrumental in helping the Ecuador program transition to a nationally run entity. Of course, this meant that eventually Chad and Andi would leave Ecuador to allow the staff there to reach
their full potential in leading the ministry. In July 2016, the family relocated in Nampa, Idaho, the site of MAF headquarters, where Chad is involved in recruiting and training new pilots to serve with MAF worldwide. Chad and Andi have two children, Josiah and Olivia.
Lori McFall One Mission Society – Greenwood, IN
Lori has been with One Mission Society since 1999. After serving with her family in the Philippines for nine months and in the Republic of Ireland for two years, she began working at OMS World Headquarters. She served in the Communications Department for 14 years, first in One Mission Kids and then for 10 years as editor. Lori McFall now serves as a trainer with HOPE61, the human trafficking prevention ministry of One Mission Society. Her focus is with churches in the United States, providing training to help them develop a plan to identify and
minister to those in their communities who are vulnerable to becoming involved in the problem. Lori and her husband, Cris, who works for Eli Lilly, have two adult children, Andrea and Ben.
Scott and Kathy Murphy One Mission Society - Spain
Scott and Kathy Murphy have served in Spain since 1982. Scott is the international regional director for Europe and Central Asia. They both assist with a church planting effort northwest of Madrid where Kathy is involved in evangelism, leading Bible studies, discipleship, and music ministry.
Brian and Beth Schwartz Wycliffe Bible Translators – the Philippines
Brian Schwartz went to the Philippines as a missionary in 2008. There he met Beth, and they were married in 2010. Brian and Beth partner in Bible translation serving in support roles: Brian as facilities manager for Faith Academy Mindanao (primarily for children of missionaries) and Beth as finance liaison for the Project Funding Management Team. Brian and Beth have a daughter, Rebecca, and an adult son, Jacob.
Mick and Nora Suman One Mission Society – Extended Service
Mick and Nora Suman have served with One Mission Society in various places over the years: Spain, East Asia, and South Korea. Their status is now “extended missionary service” (a stage between long-term service and retirement), and they are involved in short-term mission work. Mick and Nora have two adult sons, Matthew and Andrew.

Cameron and Anne Gongwer TMS Global Resource Team
Cameron and Anne Gongwer lived in Ghana for fourteen years, where Cam served as a physician at Methodist Faith Healing Hospital and Anne served on the staff of the Reading Town Library. In 2012, the Gongwers joined the Global Resource Team. Cam leads Crosspoint Global Health, an outreach in developing countries that works alongside national churches and medical services for transforming communities into healthier places to live. He and Anne keep in touch with the staff at the hospital and library in Ghana to offer support. Cam and Anne have one adult daughter, Caylor.
Delbert and Sandy Groves New Life Center - Zambia
Delbert and Sandy Groves have been in Zambia since 2000 and are the founders of the United Methodist New Life Center. It has numerous outreach ministries, including New Life Press, health education, PET Zambia (handicap bikes for mobility), a learning and computer lab, English instruction, instruction in new church construction, and other training ministries. Delbert and Sandy have four adult sons: James, Nicholas, Seth, and Nathan.
Stuart and Jessica Hall Cru/Bridges International – Lansing, MI
Stuart and Jessica Hall minister to the many international students at Michigan State University. The goal of Bridges is to serve, promote social connections, and engage in spiritual conversations with international students so that they become leaders internationally. The Halls have three children: Alaine (Lainey), Benjamin, and Micah.
Joel and Bethany Penton Stand for Truth – based in Hilliard, OH
Joel Penton and Ryan Holliday began their ministry with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2012, they transitioned out of FCA so that they could broaden their ministry to include more than athletes and coaches. They began a new ministry called Stand for Truth. For a while, they traveled together with Joel speaking and Ryan performing concerts. However, due to the rapid growth of the ministry, it became necessary to form several travel teams and add staff. Although Ryan has now left his full-time position with Stand for Truth to accept a position in his local church, Joel continues his efforts to further expand this ministry. Joel and Bethany have five
children: Joel III, Judah, Luther, Vera, and Levi.

Jeff and Shauna Spence
World Partners - Taiwan Jeff and Shauna Spence began their ministry in Mongolia in 2006, working with a local non-governmental organization doing small-scale development. They were involved in construction, greenhouse projects, developing small businesses, training local church leaders, and working with Operation Christmas Child. They moved to Taiwan in 2017, and Jeff has a new ministry position as the Regional Strategy Coordinator for North Asia. Jeff and Shauna have four children: Kaylee, Ava, Jeffrey, and Alyssa.
Brian Vinson UMC General Board of Global Ministries - Zambia
Brian Vinson serves as the coordinator of church planting in the Lusaka District of Zambia, a part of the South Congo/Zambia Episcopal Area. The church in Zambia is growing rapidly, with the resulting need for new churches and for vital lay and pastoral leadership. Brian takes part in leadership development and coordination of volunteer church construction teams. He also seeks to raise awareness across the church of the UM potential in Zambia and to raise funds to expand its ministries. He works closely with his wife, Tara, also a missionary, in the hosting and deployment of mission volunteers. Brian and Tara have four children: Jonathan,
Andrew, Lily, and Matthew. Note: We have one missionary family that has served in a location where it is not safe for them to be identified as missionaries. Although they are currently in the U.S., they plan to take short-term trips back to that location, so for their security, their newsletters are shared at the Mission Center, but nothing about them is published in the Trumpeter.
