The methodology Key Features of TSI’s Methodology
• Easily understood
• Inspires confidence in both physical and financial markets
• Achieves broad industry participation (important in market with limited liquidity)
• Daily/weekly averages suitable for monthly physical & financial contracts
• Flexibility to evolve as industry evolves (e.g. time period reducing from weekly to daily
• TSI’s indices are daily or weekly average reference prices for specified products, volume-weighted, based on industry transaction price data
• The data is submitted to TSI via secure, confidential on-line channels by over 590 industry participants buying and selling relevant products (‘data providers’)
• Confidentiality agreements signed with all data providers
• Indices calculated using systematic algorithm, involving normalisation of prices submitted, ‘cleaning’ of data (exclusion of outliers and extreme price points) and volume-weighting of prices in remaining sample
• Fall-back procedures employed in cases of insufficient submissions for current period
• Fully transparent and verifiable processes
