Principal’s Report
Another school year is almost over and a new one is peeping just around the corner. Our school is full of very tired little munchkins who from tomorrow will undoubtedly be happy lolling around in their jimmy jams for the first few days of their holidays!
We could not do what we do so well without the support that we receive in countless ways. Consequently, I would like to express my appreciation to all members of our school community for another great year full of learning at Cockatoo Primary School.
Thank you to the parent members of our school community who have entrusted your children to us. There are too many, many supportive parents to mention by name - the classroom helpers, the parents who attend excursions, provide plates for that special party day, members of the PFA or School Council, parents who cover books, help with homework, hear reading, change the sick bay linen, support us with discipline issues, attend parent/teacher interviews or information nights or just offer us a kind word or compliment – we couldn’t do without you! As I said to the parents at the Parent helpers morning tea we just would not survive without your support and encouragement! Working together will always guarantee the best results for the children.
A huge thank you to the staff of this great school! The results of the parent opinion survey indicate very strongly that the staff are approachable and that this school is a happy, caring place. It is because of their professional attitude, dedication, genuine love of teaching and real desire to create a happy, learning environment for our students that has resulted in another successful year. The staff of our school is dedicated to ensuring that our children are happy and are provided with the best learning opportunities. An energy and buzz are felt in and out of classrooms! I am truly fortunate to be able to work with such a brilliant, professional and enthusiastic team.
I sincerely hope that the teachers, office staff, OSHC staff and integration aides have a very relaxing holiday break, catch up on some sleep and have the opportunity to enjoy quality time with family and friends!
To the students, I would like to thank you for being who you are and living our school’s values! I still think that you are all amazing! I am certain that Father Christmas will have a long stop over time in Cockatoo delivering presents because you all are deserving of massive amounts of spoiling!
For our grade six graduates – your journey at our school has ended but it is not the time to say a permanent farewell. Remember that you are only saying goodbye to the buildings of our school. The relationships that you have made with your peers and the staff at our school will always be there in your hearts! Hold those memories tightly and make sure that you come to visit us often!
To Tim Dewar and Karen Saunders who are leaving our school, thank you very much for your dedication to student learning and enriching the lives of the students under your care. We wish Tim the very best as he embarks on the next stage of his career at the Montessori School in Brighton. Our very best wishes go with Karen as she retires from the teaching service after nearly 40 years of service - enjoy the slowing down of pace that retirement brings!
I would like to warmly welcome Alice Maliani to our school. After interviews, the interview panel was VERY impressed by Alice’s performance. We are thrilled that Alice will be joining the JLC team teaching a grade 1 / 2.
And finally in closing may you all have a peaceful and joyous festive season. Please have a wonderful Christmas and above all stay safe and well. I look forward to seeing you in 2018 at the beginning of the new school year on Tuesday 30th January 2018.
