Editor’s Letter... Well what a December! As I write this, we are not quite half way through the month and so much has happened! We have experienced one of the worst storms in years and one of the greatest influences on equality has died, Nelson Mandela. Never has there been a political leader who has shown such forgiveness and empathy and leaves a world with a shining example of what good leadership looks like and what it can achieve. The January issue has some news from Copley Junior school, updating us with their Christmas activities. It looks like they have had a fun time taking the Pantomime season by its horns! The January issue should be delivered between Christmas and New Year, so hopefully, this is when you received this Arrow. If you are aware of someone who has not received their Arrow, please let me know by contacting me on the details below. We have a few changes with our delivery staff and this can sometimes cause a few problems. Every home in Sprotbrough, Warmsworth, Harlington and Barnburgh should receive a copy monthly. If anyone has any local stories to share with the community news of up and coming events, please get in touch and we will do our best to promote it for you. I hope everyone has a lovely New Years Eve, and wish everyone a Happy 2014! The deadline for the February issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 15th January. The February Arrow will be delivered the last weekend in January.
Happy New Year

Dog Walking Group in Sprotbrough.
Dogs are pack animals and enjoy each other's company, but we keep them apart and walk them in isolation, often going a different route to avoid meeting other dogs! This leads to unsocial used dogs, who do not know how to relate to each other. If you would like to socialise your dog, allow it to play with other dogs off lead or just walk with other dogs, join me in forming a weekly dog walking group. No great distances, but plenty of open spaces. If you would like to put aside an hour each week to meet other dog owners, contact me by email at [email protected] so that we can arrange a day, place and time.

News from Copley Junior School Christmas at Copley It is always such a busy and enjoyable time in a school at Christmas, and December at Copley Junior was packed with four different Concerts, our Christmas disco, parties and a traditional Carols and Readings Service at Church.
For our Concerts, Year 3 performed the nativity ‘Ola! Ola! Ola!’ a nativity that looked at Christmas traditions in Spain, and finished with a carol sung in Spanish. Children have only been learning Spanish for a term, so they did very well.
Year 4 performed a nativity, from the viewpoint of the Angels.
Year 5 performed the story of Dickens’ ‘Christmas Carol’, with the narration in verse. Our Year 6 panto told the story of ‘Aladdin’. As you can see from the photos, the children had a great amount of fun rehearsing and performing their panto.

Year 4 Visit to Weston Park Museum
On the 26th November, Year 4 went to Weston Park Museum to study the lives of Egyptian people and mummification. We also looked at Sheffield Life, What on Earth, Treasures, Arctic World and the History Lab. Later on we looked at two Egyptian mummies, one aged fourteen and the other was in her 40s. These were both female and had writing on their
coffins which told a story of their lives and had prayers to the gods and goddesses. It was really interesting finding out about their lives.
Next we went upstairs to mummify Fred the rag doll. First we had to take the brain out. It was disgusting! It would have had to be mushed to get it out through the nose, but luckily that bit was already done for us.
Finally, after many other preparations, Fred was wrapped ready for his journey into the afterlife.
By Emily and India, Year 4
We look forward to sharing some of our school news again soon.
Best Wishes,
E.A. Crayton Headteacher

Don’t Drink Drive
DRINK-DRIVERS NOW FACE TOUGHER RULES
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our readers,
Drink-drive rules involving the most serious offenders are to be tightened up. Under new regulations the most dangerous offenders will have to prove they are no longer dependent on alcohol before they are allowed to get back behind the wheel.
The new measures will also see those drink-drivers who obstruct the police by refusing to allow their blood samples to be analysed being treated the same as other high-risk offenders. Currently, all high-risk offenders must pass a medical examination before they can be issued with a driving licence following their disqualification. However, drivers can start driving as soon as they have applied for their licence and before they have taken and passed the necessary medical.
But from June 1st this year the most dangerous drink-drivers will have to pass a medical confirming they are no longer alcohol dependent at the end of their disqualification and BEFORE they start driving. Also, those offenders who refuse to allow their blood samples to be analysed will also, from June 1st only get their licence back following disqualification if they pass the required medical.
Under the High Risk Offender (HRO) scheme, drivers convicted of certain serious drink/driving offences must have a medical investigation to confirm that there are no on-going problems with the misuse of alcohol before they can be issued with a licence.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA is notified of such offenders by the courts. Last year the DVLA was notified by the courts of just over 50,000 drink-driving convictions. Nearly 22,000 of those were classed as high-risk offenders. Of those, around 5,000 drivers either failed, or failed to attend, their medical.
