Director’s Corner
May is Older Americans Month
Please come and join us celebrate our May birthdays and Older Americans Month on Wednesday, May 16th. DJ Dave Miceli will entertain us after lunch. Please sign up and join us for this fun afternoon of good food and music!! Friday May 11th is our Spring Breakfast fundraiser. All you can eat breakfast for $8.00. No reservations needed, just come and enjoy!! Without all of the tremendously dedicated volunteers, our Senior Center would not exist. Since July 1st last year, more than 100 individuals have performed over 5,000 volunteer hours for the Center. That’s over $50,000 worth of service provided to all of you. Whether your helping set up for our fundraisers, baking desserts, preparing the food, cleaning up, selling tickets, helping out during our noontime lunch program or volunteering on a committee, Board of Directors or Participants’ Council, without your help, we could not afford to operate. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION!! May is Participants’ Council election, so please stop by and vote.
Enjoy the weather!! Summer is almost here
Jim
Please help us save costs on mailing the newsletter, signup to receive it via email or stop by the center and pick it up!
Thank you.

Spring has really blossomed into a beautiful thing. Flowers grace our lawns and the flowering trees are beautiful. I love the fresh colors of spring. It’s time for fresh starts.
If you haven’t visited the Center in a while, now is the time for a fresh start, time to get rid of the depressive winter blues. Some of you will be able to start planting flowers and vegetables. Be careful not to overdue, start gradually. SilverSneakers classes can do a lot to loosen your joints and prepare for spring and summer activities. You might even want to try Zumba Classes or Gentle Stretching!! Any activity does much to improve mental and physical well being. GET INVOLVED!!
With Tax season officially over you can now direct your attention to TAX/RENT Rebates with a June 30 deadline. Please call for an appointment if possible, so I can give you proper attention. Walk-ins are OK as long as I have no appointments.
Chester County Food Bank in Exton, is supplying us with Senior Food Boxes. They are delivered to the Oxford Senior Center on the first Monday of each month. If you are at least 60, live in Chester County and fall within the income guidelines, you may qualify for the monthly box. Income is based on household income, not individual. Husband & wife may each receive a box if their combined income qualifies. See me as soon as possible to get your name on our list. Boxes contain vegetables, canned meat, pasta, milk, cereal, fruit, and non-fat protein. Great way to nutritionally supplement your food supply. Registration going on now.
Chester County Food Bank is also supplying us with fresh fruit & vegetables every Monday. This is available to everyone, regardless of income. Come, get & enjoy!! We are always open to talk with those ready to begin Medicare. If you, or someone you know is turning 65 or getting ready to retire, be sure to make an appointment to talk about all the choices necessary to be made. Missing the timetable for making these decisions can be costly! We will be scheduling more Medicare 101 classes. The next class will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 7:00pm. Also June 18th at 1:00pm and July 16th at 7:00pm. Be an informed beneficiary.
I recently returned from a Pace plus training event. Some things have changed but, for the most part, Pace/Pacenet is the best kept secret in PA. If you are single, with yearly 2017 income below $23,500 you qualify for one of the programs. Married combined income must be below $31,500, even if only one is applying. If you’ve never applied, see me and we can apply on-line. This plan is restricted to PA residents and for use in PA pharmacies only. (Can’t use while snow birding in Florida!!) Get the word out—Pace plus is credible coverage for Medicare Part D. Stop by if you have any questions.
Enjoy the month of May with all it’s beauty. Summer is coming and with it comes the Farmers Market Food Vouchers. We do not receive them until June so stay tuned.
Have a great May! ftÄÄç

"Cluttered" does not only pertain to how some may describe their garages, closets, or attics. "Cluttered" can be used to describe our mind as well. Like cluttered physical storage, our mind, when disorganized, makes it difficult to use it effectively and efficiently. It can make the most minuet situation seem like Mt. Everest. Learn how to "Tidy-Up" the most crucial part of our body to help make better decisions and reduce stress through Guided Meditation.
