The Power of Partnerships
What is a partnership?
A partnership is an
arrangement where parties,
known as partners, agree to
cooperate to advance their
mutual interests.
Why are partnerships important?
“There are no problems we cannot
solve together, and very few that we
can solve by ourselves.”
-President Lyndon B. Johnson

Tip # 1 for cultivating partnerships
Inventory Assets
• Your board leaders
• Nearby or like-minded businesses
• Government
• Schools
• Churches
• Non-profits
Tip # 2 for cultivating partnerships
Build a relationship with potential partners
• Introduce yourself
• Learn as much about their organization
as you know about your own
• Maintain open lines of communication
• Stay in contact
Tip # 3 solidifying partnerships
Find ways to work together that are
mutually beneficial
• What can you offer that helps their
organization? What can they offer you?
• Even if it’s not a quid pro quo, how can
you work together toward the shared
vision for your neighborhood or
organization?
• Do not “make your” ask before building
a relationship
Open Discussion: How have you partnered to solve one of your neighborhood or organization challenges?
Open Discussion: What are needs you currently have? Are there suggestions from the room on where to find a solution?
