DAUGHTER ZION: Meditations on the Church’s Marian Belief by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI.This small book is based on three lectures Cardinal Ratzinger gave after Marian piety and Mariology had gone into decline. It was his hope that this essay would “help towards a new understanding and appropriation of what should not be lost in the Church’s Mar-ian belief.” This is a book for all who have a special affection for and devotion to Mary, the Mother of God.
RESTLESS HEART: The Confessions of Au-gustine. This special 2-disc collector’s edi-tion follows the life of one of the greatest saints of the Christian church from the reck-less days of his pre-Christian youth. Only after his confrontation with the Christian bishop of Milan, Ambrose, and the ceaseless prayers of his mother, Monica, does he ac-cept that “man doesn’t find the truth Man must let the Truth find him.” This sumptu-ous production features Franco Nero as the older Augustine.

The Feast of the AssumptionThe annual feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is observed on Mon-day, August 15. Masses in celebration of the feast will be held at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Because the celebration of Mary’s Assumption falls on a Monday this year, there is no vigil Mass in anticipation of the feast, nor is there an obligation to at-tend Mass attached to it, however, it is still a very holy day and an important Mar-ian Feast in our church year. Therefore, while there’s no sin in missing Mass on the feast this year but then there would be no grace received either; so it is hoped that many will wish to remember and celebrate Mary’s Assumption with the whole com-munity of faith at Mass on this Monday.
Welcome to ourResident Seminarian
DANIEL NUNES, who is in preparation for ordination to the transitional diacon-ate and then the priesthood, will spend the upcoming academic year with us here at Christ the King Parish. As Dan has fin-ished his formal studies this will be a time of pastoral learning and preparation for his future ministry in our Diocese. Christ the King Parish with its many ministries and great involvement by so many parish-ioners should prove a wonderful training ground for a future priest, and without any doubt Dan will experience the hospi-tality, encouragement and support of all the clergy, staff and members of this won-derful parish.
