Dear Leo Lovers,
Something BIG is happening on the east coast this September and we hope you can make plans to join us! Three
Leonberger Clubs have teamed up with the LCA and the Warrenton/Old Dominion Kennel Clubs to offer an
event you don’t want to miss. At just 8 hours or less from Boston, Indianapolis, and Augusta, we are the ideal
Leo destination for a huge swath of the country!
In fact, the event is so BIG that there is too much information to have in just this premium and the separate
Concurrent premium (available thru infodog.com). The multiple breed clubs who are sponsoring the All-Breed
shows have tons to offer as well. Besides the great information we have tried to pack in here, please check out
the 80+ page premium for the Hunt Country Cluster on LeoTripleCrown.com to see just how much is going on!
Consider this the “Leo Centric Supplement”.
In 2013, we introduced the first Leonberger Concurrent Specialty. This year, we continue to innovate with back-
to-back Concurrent Specialties on Friday and Saturday. Yes! On both Friday and Saturday, we will have two
POINTED shows EACH day! The Concurrent Specialty usually follows the All-Breed show. The winner of the All-
Breed Show goes to Group while the winner of the Concurrent Specialty gets Best in Specialty Show. These two
Concurrent Specialties and the Saturday All-Breed make the official TRIPLE CROWN which is bookended by All-
Breed Shows on Saturday and Sunday! That makes 5 pointed shows in one three day weekend.
Members of the participating Clubs are supporting the All-Breed Events and Concurrent Specialties Friday thru
Sunday with close to 200 rosettes and trophies, making these events a little more special. We hope you'll enter
for the wonderful judges, majors, fun of exhibiting, educational opportunities, social endeavors, and the
wonderful rosettes and trophies.
Tremendous talent is in the judging pool this year. These judges bring a great deal of insight and experience to
the table. For the Friday LCA Concurrent Specialty, we have the privilege of inviting Dr. Linda Fowler to judge.
Dr. Fowler has 25 years experience judging, is exclusively licensed for the working group, and has graciously put
us on her schedule between the Giant Schnauzer Club of America’s National Specialty in Colorado and the
Newfoundland Club of America’s Specialty in California. She is lovely in the ring and will be a real pleasure for
exhibitors. On Saturday, Mr. David Haddock will bring 30 years of purebred dog conformation and obedience
experience to our ring. He was recently honored with multiple Working Group assignments for the 2016
Westminster Kennel Club. Dawn Hitchcock, our Sweeps judge, has exhibited numerous Leos to their
championships. She has vast experience showing working dogs and has bred and exhibited Bernese Mountain
Dogs for over 20 years.
There will be food, social opportunities, shows, seminars (the structure seminar by Agi Hejja will be fantastic) –
more Leo activities than should be allowed by law. The most important ingredient, though, is you! We hope you
can take the time to travel out to Millwood, VA and spend time with your Leo Family. On behalf of the hard
working Triple Crown Specialty Committee, we are very happy to invite you and your furry crew out for the
show and celebration!
Sincerely,
The Triple Crown Team

Saturday: Shows Galore and a BBQ Celebration
It just isn’t the Triple Crown
without a good BBQ meal.
Luckily, we have Harry Austin,
BBQ Veteran, in charge of filling
our hungry bellies. Rumor has it
that David Mallory is bringing
enough of his famous chili to feed
an army as well. We’ll be having
the usual fair and fixin’s for the
grill, but if you have a hankerin’
for something special, let us
know by Saturday Morning and
we will try our best to
accommodate as best we can.
The BBQ happens ringside
during the shows and meetings. The meal is FREE, but donations are more
than welcome to help cover the costs.

HEAT REMINDERS We are not expecting heat, but all exhibitors need to be prepared for warm
afternoon conditions during any outdoor show in the month of September.
Dogs are susceptible to sickness and even death from exposure to too much
heat. Leonbergers can become overheated in conditions that barely bother their
human counterparts. Please follow these precautions:
If the sun is shining, a stopped vehicle is an unacceptable place to leave your
Leonberger. Most vehicles are basically solar ovens!
Shade is your friend. We will have a big tent and folks are going to bring
their own. If your Leo is hot, get them out of the sun! Crates can be setup
under tents for folks who have multiple Leos to manage or need to have
their hands free.
Have plenty of fresh water! A bucket and a jug is all you need. Lots of folks
will freeze the water overnight to have some extra cold water for their Leo
pals. Bring a little extra in case someone is without.
Ask for help. If you think your Leo is in distress or another Leonberger is in
distress, please notify a show chair or Triple Crown volunteer. The safety of
our Leos is a foremost concern!
Observe your Leo at play and intervene when necessary. Leos, especially
young Leos, can overexert themselves in the excitement of a chance to play
with their new friends. If your Leo seems to be having trouble with heat
and/or breathing, give them a break in the shade with water until they are
ready for some more fun.
