The power of the medium Through Eisenstein’s ‘collision montage’ you
have already seen how film can be used to manipulate the representation of events. The Odessa Steps sequence is very much the subjective view of Eisenstein himself.
Imagine what the scene would have been like if it was shot to elicit sympathy for the soldiers.

Your Task… I want to emphasise to you the importance of
your filming environment. Your next task is shot only in school, using di
gital handheld, photographic cameras. I want you to transform South Island School i
nto something that it is not, through photographs, framing and your choice of mise en scene.
Division of labour… Your group can divide this task as you please.
You may want one person to manipulate the photos, one person to do the presentation, one to add music or to take the photos; one to direct? It is up to you.
Examples include SIS: the den of vice. SIS- School of the future. Your imagination & environment are the only limitations in this task.
Make me believe…through make believe… Finally, I want you to persuade me that what
you are showing me and presenting is true. Suspend disbelief as much as possible in your final presentation.
You will evaluate one another and provide feedback in class. You will have 1 lesson only to get this task ready.
