• To achieve compelling and visually interesting photos, a photographer should consider their composition. Composition refers to the placement of the design elements and how they work together to achieve a particular effect. For example, certain design elements, such as lines, draw the viewer’s eye to a particular part of a photographic work. Other elements, such as areas of darkness or light , also serve to focus attention and highlight particular features of the photo.

• Likewise, a photographer should be mindful of the number of details that appear in a work. Having too few details, for instance, may make a photo appear uninteresting. Too many, on the other hand, can overwhelm the viewer and distract from the desired focus of the work. When framing a shot, a photographer should take a careful look at composition to ensure that the desired effect and sense of balance are achieved.
