HAZE INVASION BY LIM SHU YUAN
Petaling Jaya will see yet another invasion of haze starting from 18 September. This is
due to a change of wind patterns, caused by the dissipation of Typhoon Kalmaegi over
southern China.
Malaysian Meteorological Department representative Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip saidthat winds from the South China sea will bring in more moisture in the air, hence
causing more rain in all parts of Petaling Jaya.
Samarahan and Kuching were the most affected areas in Sarawak as the state recorded
unhealthy API readings of 113 and 110 as of 5pm yesterday.
An API reading of 0 to 50 is considered good; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200,unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and 301 and above, hazardous.
In George Town, the air quality has deteriorated with the API readings nearing the
unhealthy level. However, in Seberang Jaya 2 in Prai, the API readings are rising
steadily.
State authorities are blaming the smog on the 219 hotspots detected in southernKalimantan.

GOOD VIBES FESTIVAL 2014 BY ARISSA YUNIt was that time of the year again. Malaysia was holding their second Good Vibes concert
at Sepang, International Go-Kart Circuit. This year it was an ultimate must-go for serious
Ellie Goulding fans. Early bird tickets sold out fast as many were anticipating seeing the
British blonde beauty.
Another international act that also performed was Empire of the Sun, whom have hadeveryone blown out of their minds with their out of this world stage performance.
Doors were opened at 4 p.m. sharp. Everyone who started lining up came in cute festival
outfits and flower crowns. Many booths were set up for pre-concert entertainmentpleasure.
There was even a Silent Discotheque where partygoers could jam and dance to music
with a pair of headphones. Local food vendors could also be seen, available for those
with empty stomachs that needed to be filled. Local acts such as Paperplane Pursuits,
Elizabeth Tan and Faiq & The Manja Job started performing at 5 pm. Unfortunately rightaround 6.30 in the evening, rain started pouring down but that didnt stop everyone
from having a good time.
The rain would come and go but people were prepared with their colourful raincoatsand Wellington boots. There were two stages for the main live acts, The Red and Blue
Stages. Besides that, there was also a Star Club which was an 18 and above only area
featuring local electronic DJs.
Empire of the Sun started off their performance at 11.00pm. Their space and galaxytheme and unique sense of style attracted many people to their stage. The dancers were
dressed in weird space costumes and they had nine costume changes throughout the
span of the show. Nonetheless, their music had their own independent quality and was
surely unforgettable.
Half an hour after, Ellie Goulding took the stage. Her fiery performance got everyone up
and dancing on their feet. If you were able to witness her performance, you would not
deny that she blew the roof off, a metaphorical one since there was no physical roof at
the circuit. The concert finally ended at one in the morning. Tired but satisfied looks were
on everyones faces as they headed back home. Many stated that it was an amazingconcert and I definitely assure you it was.

INDEPENDENT STORES BY ALIA SAIFULIn recent years, districts across the Klang Valley have seen numerous pop-ups of
independent cafs and restaurants. From the well-known places such as The Bee, a hip
and fresh venue with great delectable food, to up and coming places such as The
Kitchen Table and Bakery, a neighborhood eatery with exceptional service and great
dining. The market has shifted its attention from chain stores such as Starbucks and Coffee
Bean to a more home-feel touch like The Grumpy Cyclist where the coffee is brewed daily
with experienced baristas and given the perfect ambiance, customers can sit back andrelax and enjoy their daily coffee while still feeling cozy and at home.
Why is it so? What is so great about these new independent stores? The difference, for
one, is location. Notice how all these stores are popping up in housing areas instead of
shopping malls. It is one of the underlying marketing strategies behind these businesses.
With the stores opening in housing areas, it gives them a more neighborhood vibe.
Additionally, it benefits the district as the more popular the neighborhood store is, themore popular the surrounding area will be. Thus, increasing the property value of the
area.

Besides that, food is an important factor. Food is always crucial regardless of its location. The aim of every owner or manager of a restaurant is to have a large quantity ofcustomers and to achieve that; the quality of food must have a high standard. The
presentations of the food in every one of these places have a homemade feel, a Jamie
Oliver like presentation; comfort food at its best.
Other than that, another evaluation point that is always critical is the service provided. What makes a store stand out better than the rest is its quality of service? With all these
independent stores, the service quality is above average to good. The employees will
leave customers thinking of how friendly and helpful they were. The reason being is that, they go the extra mile in knowing their customers, making them feel comfortable, always
having a friendly attitude, etc. All this makes contributes to better service quality andleaves the customers wanting more.
In conclusion, these independent stores are turning into competition for the rest of the
market, taking a new angle of marketing strategies regarding restaurants and cafs.

THE NBA NEEDS MORE BLACK OWNERSBY ALEX LING
The NBA needs more dark holders. Donald Sterling and Bruce Levenson have
demonstrated that now is the ideal time as the demographics of the association's
possession all the more nearly looks like those of its player and fan base. 75% of NBA
players are dark, as is 45% of the NBA-watching audience. Of that audience, 49 largerpart holders (spread over 30 groups), then again, Michael Jordan is the main African-
American.
Notwithstanding the societal push for holders to be considered more responsible for their
suppositions and activities, the soaring valuation of groups are making it troublesome foranybody besides the world's wealthiest to really gain control of a group. Sterling made a
colossal benefit from his wife's record-breaking $2 billion offer of the Los Angeles Clippers,
and Levenson is willing to take advantage of the Atlanta Hawks offer under tragically
comparative circumstances. In declaring his flight from the Hawks, Levenson concededthat he had composed an email blaming the group's fan base for being excessively
dark, amongst other racially harsh comments. Since Levenson reported the email before it
could be distributed by any other individual, he has gotten generally little kickback for his
words contrasted with Donald Sterling.
The debate encompassing Levenson is more modest than it was with Sterling, howeverthe benefit will additionally be less. In January, Forbes assessed the estimation of the
Hawks at $425 million, the third-most minimal in the group. The group could attainably
offer for a great deal all the more, particularly considering the Milwaukee Bucks surpassedForbes' evaluated valuation of $405 million when it sold for $550 million recently. Both
Milwaukee and Atlanta are more modest markets than Los Angeles or New York, yetDallas Mavericks dominant part manager Mark Cuban still alluded to the Bucks' deal cost
as "a deal," proposing all NBA establishments are actually worth, at any rate, $1 billion.

In only a short period of time, Jordan's evaluated total assets arrived at that $1 billionbenchmark, an accomplishment he fulfilled by expanding his greater part stake in theBobcats from 80% to 89.5%. That makes Jordan one of just nine dark elite rich people
from around the world, out of 1,645 elitist altogether. The other main African-American
on that rundown is Oprah Winfrey. To buy the Los Angeles Clippers, Oprah would've
needed to use almost every last bit of her assessed $2.7 billion total assets.
Indeed with a deal cost of $425 million, on the other hand, it is measurably implausible
that an African-American will turn into the new greater part holder of the Atlanta Hawks.
At 76%, the mind larger parts of American moguls are white, while just 8% are dark. Tobe reasonable, the NBA has two different holders with distinctive ethnic foundations,
although Indian Sacremento Kings holder, Vivek Ranadive's total assets is evaluated at$700 million and Russian Brooklyn Nets manager, Mikhail Prokhorov has a surprising
assessed total assets of $13 billion. Taking race out of the comparison, there is a select
gathering of people that could even bear the cost of the buy of any NBA group. What Bill
Simmons faultlessly alluded to as "The World's Most Exclusive Club" in a Grantland article
recently is anticipated to become more elite as the years go on. To say that the NBAneeds more dark managers, then, is to say that that the nation or the world needs more
dark moguls and uber rich people. It is not an outlandish notion, but given the course
and rate at which things are going, it is excessively unlikely. A complex national history of
race relations and riches imbalance has brought us to this point, where those in influence
in general do not reasonably speak to people.
The best we can trust for, then, is that the individuals who are lucky enough to buy a
NBA group stay in contact with the racial and monetary assorted qualities of their fan
base. On the off chance that the world's wealthiest must be the ones in control of the
group's establishments, they have to guarantee that all players, mentors, staff parts and
fans are at any rate treated as equivalents.

benefits climbed from 170pc to 16.4m. While Sports Direct has concentrated on
