With more than 4,700 members, the German Biogas Association is the largest German and European body representing the interests of the biogas sector. It represents manufacturers of biogas plants and components, planners as well as agricultural and industrial biogas plant owners throughout Germany. The objective of the association’s work is to enlarge the production and use of biogas for the nationwide generation of electricity, heat and fuel production, to strengthen the industrial location Germany and to develop an effective climate protection.

The crisis as a chanceNew circumstances require new solutions. Who would know this better than the biogas industry? Due to Corona, we had to think about a solution for a contact-free BIOGAS Convention this year – and: we have, indeed, found an excellent strategy.
For the first time ever in its 30-year history, the event will take place digitally and in two parts, one in German and one in English. From 08 – 10 December 2020 we will present English lectures for our participants from all over the world.
Apart from lectures and presentations in six thematic blocks, among them on the conversion of biogas into biomethane and its worldwide potential, on biowaste to biogas or on the importance of biogas standards, there will be presentations of German companies presenting successful projects from all over the world and German biogas competence. Overall the presentations will show the future and prospects of biogas worldwide.
In addition to that and as a matter of course, we offer plenty of opportunities also in the virtual space for the personal exchange with other participants, with the speakers and with the representatives of the German Biogas Association.
The time of the 30th BIOGAS Convention could hardly have been better chosen regarding the situation in Germany and worldwide: the reimbursement period for the first biogas plants in Germany expires this year, so that suitable follow-up arrangements need to be urgently found. Besides, the probably most important amendment to the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG) is pending that will decide about the future biogas utilization in Germany.
We are at a most crucial point under the aspect of energy politics in Germany – and we will not be able to achieve an energy transition without biogas as the flexible and storable energy carrier; otherwise we will miss our climate targets.
I promise you that you will miss neither relevant informa-tion nor the personal exchange at our 30th Convention. Moreover, you can view all lectures and presentations (once again) as you please – and you save money and greenhouse gas at the same time.
Be curious and look forward to the 30th BIOGAS Conventi-on with its lively discussions, as we do, but in the virtual space for the first time.
With my very best regards,
Horst SeidePräsident
