The Electric Bike Law
Electric bikes are becoming a common alternative to a gas only consuming vehicle.
They are bicycles that have a motor attached to the pedals and powered by a
battery.
They are also lighter in weight, can be stored easier, and do not require a driver’s license in
the state of Texas.
Since these are still motorized vehicles there are certain laws, different in each state,
which an electric bike has to follow.
Laws for Electric Bike
The federal law for an electric bike is that the maximum speed is only twenty miles per
hour and the maximum battery wattage is at 750.
The same traffic laws that govern automobiles are the same laws that apply for
the use of electric bikes.
The only difference between the electric bikes and automobiles is that an electric bike
can be driven without a driver’s license, insurance, or state license plate.
In Texas, it may not exceed 100 pounds and if under 21 you must wear a helmet unless excused by physician or chiropractor.
Benefits of an Electric Bike
If you live in a city that is heavy populated then owning an electric bike may be
beneficial to you.
It would make travel quicker.
In most big cities, the traffic is congested most of the time; you will be able to avoid this by using the bike to take back streets.
They keep you fit.
An average person who owns both an electric bike and a regular bike uses the electric bike more often and for longer
distances.
It is a much cleaner vehicle than a car.
Also, since this is newer technology, it has a
higher resale value than a normal bike.
Many people are looking for these bikes or looking to upgrade their parts on their
electric bike.
Even if you do not get the full amount that you paid for the bike back, you will receive a
large percent back just for the parts.
The world is trying to move away from vehicles that are harmful to the
environment, but it is up to the people to make a decision about how they want their
environment to look.
An electric bike is a great combination of today’s technology and an environmentally
friendly life style.
