September Official Opening of the New Pitch Surface
See pages 4 - 6 for more details
The New Eastro Carpet All the new carpet has been laid out and the joining seams are being very accurately cut to align together exactly. The carpet along the seams is then rolled back and a backing tape is laid on the ground and epoxy resin glue used to coat it before the carpet is rolled back to join perfectly. The cross seams are being done first then the side seams and then the D line is cut in and seamed. Finally over 60 tons of sand will be spread over the pitch. The spreading of the sand requires dry weather and completion is expected sometime next week.

The Clubhouse Final dehumidifying of the clubhouse is taking place and various choices for the bar and badminton hall floor are being examined. Some repainting that was planned anyway is about to start. We are looking into getting a bigger TV for the bar especially for the old folk with poor vision. We expect the club to be fully usable by Club Weekend even though it is likely that some work will still be outstanding.
Club Diary Dates 1st October - Club AGM
17th December - Diamond Jubilee Dinner & Dance in the clubhouse - more details to follow.
The EastcoNet 2 30th July 2016
Introducing The Men's New 1st Team Coach
Lee Petifer Playing Surbiton HC first team for 12 seasons from 1981/2 to 1992/93 which coincided with a rise from 25th (out of 26) in the old London League to the top division of the national league.
Managing Surbiton HC first team from 1997/8 to 2003/4, a period which included winning the first division championship and promotion back to the Premier Division in 1999 and the National Championship in 2001 and a bronze medal in Europa Cup II in 2003.
Coaching Began coaching at Ashford (Middx) in 2011/2 and was there for three seasons which culminated in promotion to South Premier 2. I then spent one and half seasons looking after Wimbledon HC II in the London League Premier Division. I am also involved within the England Hockey Single System at JDC and JAC level in Middlesex, at the Oxford JRPC as a lead coach of the u15 boys and will be assistant coach of the Saxon Tigers u15 boys at HiPAC in October.
Chair Chat I have been on holiday this week but have spent most of my time on hockey matters and umpiring a couple of cricket matches at Merchant Taylors. I have also been on runs each morning trying to get some fitness for the new season.
The Astro relaying is in full force and should be ready by the middle of next week. The clubhouse clean up is just about finished and we have started some improvements that are not related to the insurance claim starting with some improved lighting in the bar. This will be followed by redecoration of the hall, toilets, kitchen and bar and then some new curtains to brighten up the bar area.
The hall floor will be re-laid and we are debating what to resurface the bar area - a new carpet or a hard surface or a combination of both. A carpet us cosy and more fire giving on dropped glasses whilst a hard floor is easier to clean and dies not smell as much! My personal view is a carpet in the bar with a hard surface where we have the current wooden panelling. Your views count so let me know ASAP what you think at
I keep on asking if anyone can take on the marketing managers role - please step forward and volunteer if you can to help out.
I am getting really excited with the Olympics just a week away and not a doped Russian in site. Rob
A message from Ladies Section Captain As people start going off on their holidays I thought I would do an update about a few hockey things to keep you going over the Summer. Coaches The coaches for 2016/17 are as follows: L1 - Taj Dogra L2 - David Cooper L3/L4 - Leanne Parkinson L5 - Jimmy Thomas Captains L1 - Missy Gresophon L2 - On pitch captain to be chosen by Coops in Pre-season L3 - Lucy Carter L4 - Vacant L5 - Vacant Sharon and Alex have decided to hand over the reins so we are looking for a 4s and 5s captain for next season. In order to ensure the 4s and 5s are able to play we need to have captains in place by week commencing 5th September. This can be a sole role or perhaps you are great at organising and someone else is better at leading on pitch so responsibilities can be shared. If you are interested or want to know more get in touch with me. Training
L1/2s training started on Tuesday 19 July 19:30-21:30 at Alec Reed Academy, Bengarth Rd, Northolt UB5 5LQ. We will be training there until the Eastro has been relaid we will move back to our home pitch. it looks like we will certainly have another two Tuesdays at Alec Reed but we will confirm shortly
L3/4s training starts Wed 7 Sept 19:30-21:30 at the Eastro.
L5s* training starts Mon 5 Sept 7:15pm to 8:30pm at the Eastro *Next season we are looking to run the club training differently. The L3s and 4s (who have had an unexpected promotion to the same league as the 3s) will train together on Wednesdays. The 5s will have a tailored training session on Mondays. Players deemed to be pushing for the 4s will be invited to attend Wednesday sessions along with their session on a Monday. Fitness If you want to get in shape for pre-season training you can attend fitness on a Monday evening run by Gary Telfer (Jackie's husband). It is 8:30-9:30 and is currently taking place outside on the fields around the clubhouse as the building will be undergoing repairs due to the recent flooding. The sessions cost £3. If you want more info contact Jackie: [email protected] Kit Some of you will know that TK no longer produce the club shirts in the thick material we currently have as they along with other suppliers have moved to new fabric technology. We have had a review of kit options and suppliers and considered club kit in the round with the Men's section. After taking everything into
The EastcoNet 3 30th July 2016
consideration we have decided to move to the new TK Brasilia shirts. This is due to the ease of working with the brand, the availability of stock and having a shirt, skort (also in new material) and socks suitable for all the ladies section, see details below. See also outlines how new and existing members can obtain the kit. If you are an existing member with an old style shirt buying a new one please remember to request your number on the reverse - a must have for league games. For new members please contact Graham Pile on [email protected] to request your own number.
I have samples of the shirts from S through to XL which I will bring to training sessions for people to try. Dates for your diaries

As manager of the England over 65’s who have just won European Gold at Southgate let me share with you one of our secrets, that could benefit all of us who play or have played sport. It would in fact benefit anyone with issues around back pain, arthritis, and/or lack of energy.
We have been supported by “Xenca“ for the past 4 years who have recommended two products to us and which the majority of the squads are using. I swear by them. The first is Collagen and the second Five a day + V. Both are natural products. If you have a club member in the squad talk to them about it. If interested to research or buy to try, go to www.xencahockey.com Peter Crayford England GGM Manager

Eastcote Hockey Club will provide qualified coaches with up to date CRB checks and first aid certificates. Every precaution has
been taken to ensure safety. Hockey is a sport using hard moving objects. From time to time children will sustain injury. Protection,
such as shin guards and mouth guards are recommended and should be provided by the parent/guardian. If a coach feels that a
practise or game cannot be completed safely without protective items, your child will be asked to sit out that part, if not equipped.
We may use video for coach education purpose and photos may be taken for the local paper. Would you please tick the box giving
your agreement? By signing the form you will have been expected to have read this statement. In the case of emergency,
parents/guardians will be expected to be available. The timings of session are strict, children should be collected on time.

We can supply sticks, but would ask all to bring shin guards and a gum shield (No gum shield
would not allow a participant to take part in certain routines or games) Clothing that suits
the weather conditions, plus sun cream (he says, hopefully) We will play in the rain but have
the club changing facilities and toilets available. Studded soccer boots are not allowed on the
all-weather surface.
