Meyer, age 91, of Tyndall, SouthDakota passed away on Thurs-day, January 5, 2012 at The GoodSamaritan Home in Tyndall.
Funeral services will be heldat 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January9 at St. John’s Lutheran Church inTyndall with Rev. Dean Schroederofficiating. Pianist will be RachaelStarwalt with special music byScott, John and Paul Meyer. Inter-ment will follow in the TyndallCemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will beMarvin’s granddaughters and ac-tive pallbearers will be Marvin’sgrandsons.

Marvin was born on March 24,1920 on the family farm near Elk-ton, SD to Arthur, Sr. and Ella(Sandkamp) Meyer. Marvin at-tended country school in Brook-ings County. He attended ElktonHigh School for 3 years beforegraduating from Watertown HighSchool in 1937. After attendingSDSU for one year, he moved toCalifornia and worked at Lock-heed Aircraft from 1940-1942. Hereturned to SD to work on thefamily farm near Watertown.
On September 10, 1944 hemarried Avis R. A. Mork (Morky)in Granite Falls, MN. From thatday on, you rarely heard onename without the other — “Marv& Morky” were a team like noother. Marvin began his lifelongcareer with George A. Hormel &Company working in Austin, MNand Mitchell, SD. He opened thefirst hog buying station in Tyndallin August 1949, which he oper-ated for 37 years until his retire-ment in 1985. During these yearshe enjoyed many friendshipswith local farmers. Marvin andMorky moved to Brookings in2004 and returned to Tyndall tolive in the North Point apart-ments in the summer of 2011.
Marv and Morky celebrated awonderful partnership of 67years of marriage. For their firstanniversary they went campingin a tent and that was the begin-ning of over 60 years of campingand traveling throughout the US.Dancing, fishing and gardeningwere times enjoyed together.Marv was an avid hunter and col-lector of antique Red Wingstoneware.
Marvin served in many ways
to support his church and com-munity. He was a 50 year memberof the Tyndall Rotary Club and aPaul Harris Fellow, Tyndall CityCouncil member and president ofSt. John’s Lutheran Churchwhere he also served as treas-urer for 25 years.
Grateful for having shared hislife are his wife, Avis Meyer, Tyn-dall, SD, his sons Roger (Van),Yankton, SD; Larry (Anne) Yank-ton, SD; David (Patricia), Brook-ings, SD and his daughter Julie(Michael) Heyl, Lincoln, NE.
Marvin’s legacy of faith andlove will continue in his grand-children, Rachael (Chris) Olm-stead, Michael Meyer (Laura) andColleen Meyer; Jennifer (Jeremy)Nolan and Amy Meyer (LarryBarker); Andrea (Brian) Schmidt,Scott Meyer (Taylor), John andPaul Meyer; Eric, Alex and EmilyHeyl, and 6 great-grandchildren.

in Yankton. To-gether they ownedand operated Van-Derhule Moving &Storage Companyfor 37 years.
Donelda andMilford were char-ter members ofHillcrest CountryClub. She was apast Worthy Ma-
tron and 50-year member of East-ern Star, member of Questers, andYankton Women’s Club, and anavid bridge player. She and Mil-ford were active members of theircommunity and enthusiastic sup-porters of Yankton.
Baptized and confirmed in theFirst Lutheran Church of Yankton,SD, Donelda joined the UnitedChurch of Christ-Congregationalafter marriage where she taughtSunday school and served manyyears as a member of the UCCWomen’s Fellowship.
She was preceded in death byher parents, husband, Milford,and brother, Richard Helm.
