Dear Fellow Gardeners:
Welcome to a new year for the Plantation Garden Club, Inc.
We have enjoyed many successes and accomplishments over the past 54 years. I look forward to working with you all and many more new members during the coming months and years as we continue to work toward the goal of:
“Promoting environmental, civic, and community responsibility, supporting local gardening and
environmental education, and encouraging the use of native plants to preserve South Florida’s unique habitat.”
This can only be accomplished as we work together as a team to complete each undertaking. I look forward to meeting and greeting each of you personally and working with you to make the coming year one of our best ones ever. Thank you for your confidence in me and support of me as we go forward together. Peggy Tingle President

Welcome to Summer! To all our new people who’ve first moved here, get ready for high humidity and high temperatures. Don’t be discouraged about gardening, first pick a cooler time to do it. Early morning or evening is good. This is why we love our winter here, and gardening is great. Of course some of our beautiful trees and shrubs look their best in summer. The trees are Royal Poinciana, Crape myrtle, Plumeria, Jacaranda. Heliconias and gingers, and Bird of Paradise start blooming now through fall. For ground covers, we have pursulane, portulaca, vinca, these are the strongest to plant now. Things that must be done in June are: first fertilize all palm trees, all fruit trees and shrubs. Use a good palm fertilizer for trees and palms. For fruit trees, use citrus, mango, for all fruits. Second, trim all old wood from your trees. Then prune all bushes that need it. We need to get ready for the hurricane season. The rainy season starts this month, and we really need it. If you have anything to plant, do it now. Try to stay cool but enjoy your garden.
