Dear Church Family,
As we move into October, I want highlight three ministry opportunities. The first is our Mission
Georgia offering. We partner with churches all over our state to extend the gospel’s reach in Georgia. Our
offering goal this year is $1,000. Prayerfully consider the amount you would like to invest in this opportunity.
The second opportunity I want to highlight is our Sunday evening gathering. This month we will meet
on Sunday, October 20th at 5pm for our fellowship meal. Bring your best pot of chili to share! Then at 6pm I
will give a brief charge to all those serving on committees and ministry teams. Then each committee and
ministry team will have some time to meet, chose its chairperson, and begin planning for the year. If you are on
a committee or a ministry team please try your best to attend this gathering.
The third opportunity I want to highlight is our Halloween outreach. Last year we filled several
hundred cups with our name on them with candy. We distributed the cups among our membership to handout at
their homes on Halloween. The idea is to give the kids some good candy and a cup that may help their family
connect with our church. This year we are going to prepare double the amount of cups. You can help by
donating bags of candy. We will collect candy until we put the cups together on Wednesday, October 23rd. Pray
that those who receive these cups will be led to join us one Sunday for worship!

Worship Music Worship Music has been and should always
be scripturally sound and leading our mind
and voices to honor our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. Through the years our hymnal
has been updated in order to accurately
follow biblical standards while bring new hymns and
spiritual songs reflecting current trends. What is the best
music for worship? Why do we have favorites? How are
new trends in worship music chosen?
My opinion is that there are as many musical choices as
there are people who enjoy music in each
congregation. Most worship music, hymns and/or new
contemporary hymns are born out of personal experiences
with our living Lord. I shared a brief synopsis of a hymn
being sung for worship that sums up some of the
characteristics of most of our music, repetition of
phrases. I think the thought was to make music and text
easier to learn and sing. While many would say that one
choice has more repetition than another, they would have to
admit this characteristic is both helpful and sometimes over
used.
Christian music melodies came from and still come from
many sources. How many different sets of words are used
for the tune "Danny Boy"? Amazing Grace text has been
used along with many other familiar worship music
texts. All said, we need to worship God with songs that
convey a sense of praise, thanksgiving and
commitment. When this is done, the melody is beautiful,
the text is convicting and we are stirred anew as we
worship.
Reformation Sunday, Thanksgiving Sunday, Advent and
Christmas are coming and we should be able to find many
familiar worship songs to express our love and gratitude to
Jesus Christ. Each week as we worship, you are needed to
lift your voice as we worship with the music of each
service. Each week, you are needed to come and join our
growing adult choir as we prepare for weekly worship and
special worship presentations for Advent and Christmas.
Psalm 66 instructs us to: "Shout for joy to God all the
earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise
glorious. Say to God, 'How awesome are your deeds!' So
Great is your power that your enemies cringe before
you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to
you, they sing the praises of your name"
In Christ’s service,

Did you know that there are 900 Missionary Agencies in
the US and Canada? Wow. That is exciting to me. There
are so many groups who want to help people spread the
love, compassion, and truth of Christ to people in need.
This semester in Youth we have been studying missionaries
and how they approach ministry in their different areas. In
a wealthy suburb of Sydney, Australia Refuge church is
teaching bible in local schools and running community
events so that families who seem to have everything...until
it all falls apart...can have a "refuge" in Christ ("God is our
refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." -
Psalm46:1). Here in Augusta, Young Life ministers to local
teenagers by going where they are and providing healthy
adult friendships ("Because we loved you so much we were
delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but
our lives as well" -1Thessalonians 2:8). Young Life leaders
show teens that life with Christ is full of adventure and
purpose. In Santiago, Chile the Case Family are running
sports camps, coaching soccer, and organizing youth camps
in addition to bringing church planters together to develop
new ways to reach those who need to hear about Christ's
love. They find ways to connect with anyone they can ("To
the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become
all things to all people so that by all possible means I might
save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I
may share in its blessing." -1Corinthians 9:22-23).
I look forward to continuing our study. Please pray that as
we look at different missions we can be inspired to dive into
being missionaries right here in our own communities and
schools...that we will develop relationships for the purpose
of loving as Jesus loves and getting the opportunity to invite
these new friends to join us on our journey with Him.
Thank you for your prayers and support of our Youth!
