In the July edition of the Andersonian it was reported that the annual “Young and Emerging
Artists” art show put on by the Dutchess Day School (Millbrook, NY) was no longer going to
be held. The director of the show, Allison M. stated that the production of the show and the
responsibility of managing her art program had become too much. Well, this week I received an
e-mail stating that this show (due to popular demand) will be held again next year.
The 2012 art show will be held at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum (Hyde Park,
NY) on Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th. Hope to see you there!

I wanted to send a “Thank You” out to the mother of
Margaret A. (Rm. 125) for the card and nice note she
sent to the Art Department in November. It was great
to hear her kind words about the ACA’s Art Program.
Thank You!!
Margaret’s completed “Fall Mobile” can be seen above.
As I right this the last classes are in the process of completing
their “Fall Mobiles” (Seen below and on the front page of this
edition). All though they took awhile to finish, I think they all
turned out great!
The “Mobiles” were created through a decoupage technique
using water/glue (2:1) and paper towels over tagboard. This
was later cut into “leaf” shapes (templates) and painted with
Fall colors. Yarn was cut , beaded and tied to a painted card-
board ring and the decoupaged leaves.

Village Center Art In the last edition of the Andersonian, it was re-

process of selecting, matting and framing student
artwork for display in the new Village Center. I
am happy to report, that over the last weeks the
process has continued and is nearing completion.
Below is a list of art and artists that has been cho-
sen to adorn the Village Center walls since the
last edition of the Andersonian.

Douglas O. (Rm. 117) “Akita”
Aamil B. (Rm. 313) “Winter Cardinals”
Jonathan B. (Rm. 307) “Spooky Tree”
Michael R. (Rm. 119) “Spooky Landscape”

Over the last few weeks Classroom 310 has been creating 3-D “Ice Skating Dioramas”
using many of the art techniques and materials that they have learned about over the last year,
including masking, decoupage, collage, painting, coloring, cutting and gluing.
Through the next couple of months the rest of the classrooms will be creating their own dio-
ramas. Be on the look out for them!

Students have also been hard at work creating “Winter
Trees” paintings/collages (seen below and on page 3).
The creation of these “Winter Trees” allowed students to
practice and reinforce most of the painting techniques that
they have learned over the past few months, including
shaped masking (clouds), crayon resist (tree “bark”), and
stenciling (trees).
These “Trees” are intended to be used as future Notewor-
thy card designs.

Construction Paper (Brown), Glue, Tagboard, Newspaper, and Glitter (Silver).
