The 2nd MENA-NCCN Regional Meeting

Summary Report

This conference held on Emirates Palace, Abu-Dhabi, UAE on November 14 – 16, 2013.

The theme of our conference is Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN

Guidelines)

This conference successfully meets our Objectives, which are:

Educate participants on US NCCN Guidelines updates in non-small cell lung and

breast cancers.

Present adaptations of NCCN Guidelines for the Middle East and North Africa

(MENA) region.

Train participants on guidelines development process.

Share information about research results and ongoing projects relevant to MENA

Region.

Our aim is to gather all Hematology and Oncology Physicians of all Subspecialties

(Medical, Radiation, Surgical, Gynecological Oncology, Palliative Care and others) in one

place (the attendees were over 800) to achieve our Goals, which are:

1. To help regional oncology health care professionals develop an evidence‐based

practice through the adaptation of NCCN Guidelines

2. To help build regional capacity in the evidence based medicine

3. To encourage collaborative activities among oncology health care professionals to

disseminate knowledge and exchange expertise.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and

policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

The event was collaboratively organized by MENA Regional Center for NCCN and Tawam

Hospital & Johns Hopkins Medicine entered.

Our statistic of evaluation & feedback show that

The attendees submitted Meeting Evaluation, using 1- 5 (1 is weakest - 5 is strongest).

The results are:

80 % from our audience suggested that to keep the conference annually in other countries

within our region (Middle East & North Africa) as a rotation schedule.

20 % suggested having more case presentations, more interactive discussions & applying

workshop.

10 % suggested to add NCCN Guidelines book & CD to meeting materials & to get the

presentations on USB or CD.

Publicity

Almost all major press and newspapers in the country covered the event.

Future Directions

MENA Regional Center for NCCN Collaborations is planning to conduct similar meeting

annually in the futures including different countries within our region.

Acknowledgement

We appreciate the endorsement of NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) and

Tawam Hospital in this important meeting, which added credibility to this activity and

reflected on the collaboration to help the region in capacity building through high quality

educational event.
