Welcome to Texas Trails RV Resort Welcome Back Winter Texans! Whew I can’t believe how the time has flown. Larry and I have been busy all summer. We have made some improvements which you have probably read about in Denise’s News Bites. (I am so glad she enjoys doing them because it is so fun reading them). I am going to talk about some of the changes that have been made but not all as there have been so many. While you were gone the year round residents (thank you all for helping us survive the summer) have been helping us hold the fort down. The Friday night dances have been a fun time and we have at least broke even with ticket sales and 50/50 pot money for each dance. That means we did not lose money and people that stayed in the valley had a good time. During this time Larry and I started doing hot dogs in the concession. They went over fairly well and then came Don Sharp. If you have not heard about the new chef in residence he and his wonderful wife Nancy have made the kitchen sparkle. They painted, organized, cleaned and cleaned some more. Now you can actually find things in the pantry areas. This also means that there will be new rules for purchasing food and using supplies. If you are chairing a project that will need to use the kitchen area or food in any way you will have to check with Don Sharp. The activity directors will no longer be ordering food or have any control over the kitchen. As you come in to the Friendship Hall you will see a Powerpoint display of the things going on in the park as well as the improvements we have made throughout. Make sure to thank Larry because he put a lot of work into it. There has been a change in the old Trading Post area. It is now the Activity Office. If you need anything from the activity office you will need to stop at one of the windows and the volunteers will assist you from there. Our hope is to stop some of the congestion in the hallway and the entrance to the old part of the office. That door will actually be locked and remain so unless you have an appointment to see one of the directors. The ice cream will be sold out of the Chuckwagon (the old coffee room). So the Chuckwagon….Don and his crew are making lunch daily Monday through Friday. In order to keep costs low and leftovers down, we are selling tickets in advance. There will be no ticket sales on the weekends. Don needs to know at least three days in advance how many are eating on a certain day. So if you are wanting to eat on Monday you will have to purchase your ticket on Wednesday of the week before. If you are wanting to purchase a ticket for all 5 days (a weekly ticket) the last day to purchase it will also be the Wednesday before. (It will get easier once you start purchasing them). There could possibly be some lunches for walk-ins but there is no guarantees. So many more changes have been made but you will have to see for yourself when you arrive. If you have a friend encourage them to come and visit. Just maybe they will want to stay here also.

Thurdays from 10:45 to 12:oo noon
This year we will have a weigh in from 10:45 until 11:00
in the Chuckwagon Café by the scale but our short
meeting will take place in the Sunshine Room close to the mailboxes.
Meetings are free and starting Thursday, December 7, we will be running monthly
contests where we each contribute $2.00 to a monthly fund and if we gain weight at
any weigh in we add $1.00 to the fund. At the last meeting of the month the
proceeds of the fund are divided between anyone who has lost 2 pounds or more.
That’s only ½ lb a week. I know we can all do it.

YOGA FOR SENIORS
Starting Thursday December 7, 2017
Yoga on a Chair – 3:30 – 4:00 on Thuursdays
All the yoga sessions are done to DVD’s. I have a few
DVD’s for seniors that start on a chair and go to standing
up. No special equipment is required. Most of the DVD’s
are for about 30 minutes.
Yoga for Beginners – 4:00 – 4:30 on Thursdays
These DVD’s are a bit more advanced than the chair ones.
I have about six and they range from fairly easy to fairly
challenging. A thick exercise mat works best for this if
you have one. If you don’t have one, we can loan you one
for the sessions. Most of the DVD’s are for about 30
minutes.
If you need more information call Carol Lauber at 226-444-4354 (a Canadian
number) or 956-534-1524 (cell).

Holiday Baking
Lots to do this busy holiday season? Not much room to bake and store many varieties of cookies? But you still would
like to have a variety of cookies for company and gifts?
Here’s the answer: a cookie exchange!
How it works: Bake (or buy?) 5 dozen of your favorite seasonal cookies. Package them on small paper plates of 6
cookies each, covered with plastic wrap. Bring your cookies to the exchange. Put one plate on the table of cookies to
share with the whole group. Put 9 plates on the table you signed up for. After a brief social time (we have to enjoy each
other’s cookies after all!), we’ll each pick up 1 of each of the nine plates others brought to our table. (We won’t be
taking our own cookies home; we are sharing that plate with everyone in the exchange.)
On Monday December 11 at 10 am, there will be a cookie exchange in Veteran’s Hall. We will organize ourselves in
tables of 10, with each of us bringing 5 dozen cookies to share with the others. Each of us will go home with 4 ½ dozen
of a variety of cookies. In previous years, we have had 9 - 14 participants, and each went home with lots of great
cookies, some quite plain, some very fancy. Some are shared with company; some are given as gifts.
There will be room for 30 participants. Sign up sheets are on the Activity board.
