Kia oraOur Schools Programme has been supporting schools since 2004, growing
rom simple school tours and short workshops to artist residencies andsponsored perormances. On its ninth year, we are still very much passionate
in giving young people and their teachers access to arts experiences that
engage, challenge and inspire.
Last year our Schools Programme attracted over 26,000 students enjoying their venue,
many participating or ree with transport also provided which we thank our sponsors or.
We remain committed to being an active part in the vibrant development o children and
young people through the arts. As an of cial Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom
(LEOTC) Provider o the Ministry o Education, we continually look or ways to improve the
programme while aligning it to the NZ Curriculum.
A highlight was our arts residency programme led by experienced arts proessionals
working in the school environment. This programme celebrated student achievement
while providing proessional development opportunities in the arts or teachers.
The programme also provided a venue or New Zealands leading childrens book authors
and illustrators to interact with over 1,600 students in a two day event. Storylines Story
Tour will be back in 2013 and promises to be an enlightening time or all.
This year we partner again with Atamira Dance Company who will be leading our
introductory dance workshops and dance masterclasses while working with us in Project
Light Bulb. We will also be working with other proessional practitioners in soon to be
announced workshops.
We have a wide range o outside the school activities to choose rom which will surely
aid young people and teachers to meet their goals. We are looking orward to an exciting2013 in working together with you and giving the best possible educational experience or
children.

experienceThe Experience Stream is composed o programmes where students participate inauthentic learning experiences in a proessional perorming arts environment that
cannot be replicated in the classroom. Arts based programmes are oered to year
1-13 students and are in line with the NZ Ministry o Educations Learning Experiences
Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) programme to compliment and enrich school based
learning.
The main programmes are Dancing With Mythology, the Dance Masterclasses, the
Storylines Story Tour and the sponsored Schools Production Programme.
All programmes in the Experience Stream are ully sponsored and are ree o
charge. Bus programme sponsorships are also made available or schools looking toparticipate in the Experience and the Engage Streams (conditions may apply).

Dancing with Mythology is the Schools
Programmes introductory workshop series.
It derives inspiration rom Pou Kapua or
Cloud Pillar, the centres stunning 21 metre
carving which narrates the Maori myth oKupe, Rangi and Papa and Tangaroa and the
creation story o Maui, the rst man.
These practical hal day workshops are
suitable to give students an understanding
o dance and drama processes. Students
will explore legends and migration stories,
sharing their creative work with each otheron stage at the end o the workshop. Schools
may book or both workshops or just one.

Three Dance Masterclass workshops will be held during the year to be
oered to serious and committed senior students o dance. AtamirasArtistic Director Moss Patterson will lead students through a series o
exercises and choreographic ideas that will inspire and ignite new ideas
about how dance can be used as an exciting way to be creative.
The workshops will include the teaching o Atamira repertoire as well as
choreographic skills based on ta moko and kowhaiwhai designs and how
these patterns can be used to create movement and new dance work.
Music used during the workshop will utilise soundtracks orm long termAtamira collaborators Paddy Free (Pitch Black) and Richard Nunns. Video
material will also be used during the workshop and reected upon.

Project Light Bulb is the main programme or the Engage Stream. It is a leadershiparts programme or young people based on collaborative partnership best practice
models in the UK and USA. Its partnership planning, programming, management
and evaluation processes have been trialled in six Auckland schools since 2007.
This arts residency programme is led by proessional arts practitioners who will work
with students and teachers or one to two terms within the school environment.
Each project will be a collaboration among the artists, students, teachers and senior
management to produce high quality learning results. The workshops may be used
as part o the school curriculum or in line with a schools theatre production. The
workshops will lead back to the centre where the children will showcase their work in
a proessional theatre environment.
Project Light Bulb is project managed by Sally Markham MNZM and Markham Arts.

The Cloaks Project is a one term
programme under Project Light Bulb
where students and teachers will
develop and design their own cloak thatrepresent their turangawaewae their
sense o belonging. This workshop will
be a journey o sel discovery and an
expression o intellect, traditions and
culture.
The workshop will culminate in a live
event where the children rom thedierent schools will parade their
nished cloaks among amily and peers.

TelstraClear Pacic Events Centre is host to excellent live and theatre perormances,
musicals, symphonies and concerts which children and young people will both
learn rom and enjoy. With the support o our sponsors, the Access Stream provides
opportunities or schools to attend these events or ree or with student ticket
prices. Teachers may also link these events to school curriculum and access teachers
resources, i available, or urther exploration and enhancement o creative thinking.
Schools also have greater access to the venue at special rates. Whether it is an end o
year awards or a school production season, TelstraClear Pacic will sponsor 50% o
the venue hire cost.
The schools programme also accommodate schools in need o a venue at short
notice depending on availability. Groups may book a venue or a rehearsal or even or
a class outside the classroom. I the space is available, its ree o charge!
The centre is also available or ree venue tours. Students can learn how architecture
can reect theme while enjoying the venues public art collection.
