Here is a summary of what you learned this lesson.
Purpose of Assessment
All teachers need to know how effective their teaching is and all learners are interested in how well they are doing. The purpose of implementing assessment strategies throughout your language program is to:
Inform next steps in your instruction
Inform students of where they are at in their individual learning
Provide support as students progress through the language development
Initial Assessment In order to develop an appropriate English program for your students, you
need to conduct an initial assessment of your individual students.
This assessment may include a brief oral interview, a reading assessment
tool and a writing assessment tool.
Collect and place the initial assessment in the students’ portfolio to gauge
students’ learning progress from the onset.
Forms of Assessment
Beyond traditional scores and paper and pencil tests, an effective teacher uses multiple assessment tools and activities to properly assess the learning of the students.
It is also important to selectively store assessed activities in students’ portfolios to visually see their learning overtime.
