Orifice Plate SizeDuring a well test and starting with a given orifice plate and the corresponding
differential pressure, this chart enables the most appropriate orifice plate to bedetermined to obtain a convenient differential pressure, thus avoiding numerous
time-consuming orifice changes.
Example:
Meter tube I.D. D = 4.026 inches
Present orifice size d = 2 inches
Present differential Hw = 30 inches of water
Desired differential Hw = 350 inches
1. Connect hw= 30 in. and d = 2 in. on 4.026
axis to obtain reference point on the "A" axis
2. & 2. From this point connect appropriate
orifice size to obtain differential reading (d = 1.125 in. - hw= 325 in.)
After the orifice change, compare the
differential value from the chart with meter indication.

his chart, developed by Schlumberger, provides a quick and good estimate (5% accuracy) of gas flow rate withoutlculation (see Orifice Meter Flow Chart).
1. Start with specific gravity of gas G and temperature tf inoF and plot the corresponding point with the red grid
system.2. Draw line 4 by joining corresponding Pfvalue in psig to the above plotted point.
3. Read the FGTZvalue where line 4 cuts the FGTZaxis (remember that FGTZ= Fgx Ftfx Fpv).
4. Draw line 1 from hwvalue (hwvertical axis) to the static pressure in psig (P fvertical axis).
5. Plot point 2 on axis A by selecting the actual orifice size (d) and metering tube size (D).6. Draw line 3 between point 2 and the intersection point of the line 1 with C axis.
