Phil Justover100yearsago,bravesoldiersarrivedby boattoaplacecalledGallipoli.Itwasverydarkso theylandedatthewrongplace.Insteadof landingbythebeach,theylandedinadifficult placewithcliffs.Theyfoughtinawar,defending theircountry.ThebravesoldiershadveryliOle foodandveryliOlewater.SomeQmestheyonly hadbiscuits,whichweknowasANZACbiscuits.Lachlan Buthowdidtheylive?Jordan Andtheyneedmilk.Phil Therewasn’tanymilk.Someofthemlivedand someofthemdidn’t.TheyfoughtforalongQme andtheytriedtheirbest.Youshouldbevery proudofallthesoldiers.Levi Iamveryproud!Phil Andifyouseeanysoldiers,youshouldclapthem andsaythankyouandwelldone.Charlie Wereyouinthewar?Phil Yes,IwasintheVietnamwar.Iwas20yearsold.Teagan Ohmygosh.Abbey Wereyoutheonlyonenotkilled?Phil No,therewerealotofusthatsurvived.Abbey Didthesoldiersevenfightontheirbirthday?Phil Yes,theyhadtofighteveryday.It’simportantto rememberthattherearenowinnersinwar.Both sideslose.Thesoldierswenttowartofightforall ofus,sothatwehaveabeauQfulfreecountry, thankstoourbravesoldiers.

PhilinvitedustostandwhilsthereadtheOdebeforeplayingarecordingofthelastpost.Thisexperiencegaveusallsomuchandwasa

parQcularlypowerfulexperienceforthechildren,whoareintheearlystagesoflearningaboutthehistoryoftheANZACsandtheconceptofwar.ThankyouPhilforyourQmebutalsoforthesacrificesyouhave

Hugo:Thesoldierstriedtokeepallofthecountriessafe.Theydiedandtherewasanurseatthebeachwherethesoldierslivedandtheyhelpthemget

beOer.Soldiersgetspecialbadges‘causetheydidagoodjob.Thesoldiersjusteatplaincookies.

Lauren:ANZACDayiswhenschool’snotopenandweallgotoourhomesandfindsomethingtodo.IwenttoGaga’shouseandwemadeANZACbiscuits,they’resomethingthatthesoldierseatwhenthey’reatwars.Theyeatthosecookiesbecausethatmakesthem

healthier.Theydidn’thavefood,justsomeQmeswater.

Teagan:Wewenttotheoval.AlltheJuniorSchoolandallthebigchildrensatdown.

Therewasabigbandplayingmusic.Andallthepeopleonthestepsweresingingasong.ItwasaboutANZACDay.Some

peoplewentinthewarsandsomepeoplecamebackandsomepeopledied.

Wayang Kulit Shadowpuppetryisauniqueformofpuppetryasthepuppetsthemselvesarenotseen,justtheeffecttheymakeastheirshadowshitthescreen.ThisweekthechildrenlearntaboutpuppetrytechniquesandWayangKulit–the

tradiQonalformofshadowpuppetsfromIndonesia.Thechildrenlearnthowtheyaremadeandhowthepuppeteermanipulatesthembehindthescreen.WewatchedsomevideosoftradiQonalshowsandthechildren

wereinvitedtohaveaturnbehindthescreen.

WemadeourpuppetsdanceandinteracttotradiQonalmusicfromIndonesia.ThechildrenenjoyedwatchingtheshadowsmoveacrossthescreenandexperimenQngwiththepuppetsastheymovedcloserandfurtherfromthescreen.WewillconQnuetoexploreshadowpuppetryoverthefollowingweeks,withthechildrenhavingthe

opportunitytocreatetheirownpuppets.
