Youth Participant Overview
Community Summer Youth Employment Program 2014
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) administered the 2014 Community Summer Youth Employment Program to provide eligible youth with age-appropriate:
• Job training, • Life skills, • Counseling, • Work-readiness skills, and • Supervised meaningful work
experience.
A SYEP Youth flyer (available in English and Spanish) and a Program Overview. PowerPoint provided an overview of the program components.
Plus, 2013 success stories were available show how the program helped youth the previous year.
Youth and their parents / guardians used the information site to:
• Learn about eligibility requirements.• Ask questions before they applied
for the program.
A map / list of providers was available to:
• See if there were participating providers in their area.
• Contact if they had location-specific questions.
A printer-friendly application was available (in English and Spanish) so youth and their parents / guardians could prepare before submitting their online application.
Over 10,000 youth applied online!
Once youth applied online, they were able to access the following tools through their account:

Guide• Career Plan• Job Search Plan• Career and
Interest Surveys• Post-Assessment• Certificate of
Completion• Resume Builder

Youth completed:• Work-readiness training

• Work experience and gained workplace skills while earning $9/hour.

survey to collect feedback for future program enhancements.
• A success story to inspire future youth participants.
