Symbiont Employees “CLEAN UP” with “ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY”
Our employees & their families had a great time participating in our highway clean-
up project. Jim is a lifesaver with the new and improved “trash picker stickers” –
may need a patent on this one! They spent 2 hours & 45 minutes cleaning the 4
miles that Symbiont is responsible for & collected 20+ bags of garbage. Karabeth did
a great job on customizing the orange trash bags to look like “Designer Pumpkins”

Jill Bowen & Sandy King
Sandy King and her daughter, Jill Bowen completed the grueling task of a 60-mile “Walk for a Cure”. They
walked 60 miles over three days with 1,600 other people to help raise millions of dollars for breast cancer
research and patient support programs. As a team they each had to raise $2,300 for a total of $4,600. Sandy
said, “I thought raising the funds to reach the goal would be the hard part”! Thanks to all the many contributors
including Symbiont Service Corp. employees, family, friends, and vendors such as AquaCal they reached their
goal. The actual walk proved to be the most challenging along with sleeping in a small tent for two nights.
They walked in beautiful areas throughout Pinellas County over bridges, along waterways and pristine
subdivisions to end at the St. Petersburg Pier. The support of signs, cheering, high fives, water bottles, gifts,
cold wash cloths, snacks and appreciation along the way really helped their motivation to keep going!
Susan G. Komen 3-Day “Walk for a Cure” CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR SYMBIONT SERVICE CORP. EMPLOYEES
We feel an individual who possesses a desire to continue their education, in addition to performing
their full-time job, shows a commitment to improving themselves and their position within the
company. To encourage and reward these individuals, Symbiont Service Corporation offers
an Education Assistance benefit. Full-time employees may continue their education
in a related field and Symbiont Service Corporation may reimburse all or part of the registration and
tuition costs. All courses must be pre-approved by your manager. Once the course is completed,
submit a certified transcript of grades, with receipts for expenses. Symbiont Service Corporation will reimburse you as described below for the portion
of the registration and tuition that was pre-approved. Incentives have been established to
reward better-than-average performance. Reminder: If you are taking a pre-approved seminar that offers continuing education credit, be sure to
give your manager a copy of the Continuing Education Credit Certificate (or other document) to
include in your personnel file. We believe that pursuing Continuing Educational
opportunities enriches you as a person, as well as your value to your co-workers and to the company. Every Symbiont Service Corporation team member
is expected to complete a minimum of three (3) Continuing Education credit hours each year. You
may take a class or attend a seminar in the area you are working in currently, or in an alternate area you have interest in that will benefit the company. If you become aware of a particular seminar that
you believe is appropriate for enhancing your skills (and/or those of other employees), please bring it
to the attention of your manager. Since many classes or seminars may be offered only at
specified times in a geographical area, please be sure to notify your manager as far in advance as
possible. This way, he or she can attempt to schedule workloads to accommodate your (and/or
other employees') desire to attend the seminar.

PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTATS...Did you know that properly using a pro-
grammable thermostat in your home is one of the easiest ways you can save ener-
gy, money, and help fight global warming? A programmable thermostat helps make
it easy for you to save by offering four pre-programmed settings to regulate your
home's temperature in both summer and winter - when you are asleep or away.
The pre-programmed settings that come with programmable thermostats are in-
tended to deliver savings without sacrificing comfort. Depending on your family's
schedule, you can see significant savings by
sticking with those settings or adjust them as
appropriate for your family.
The key is to establish a program that auto-
matically reduces heating and cooling in your
home when you don't need as much.

Residential Renewable Energy
Tax Credits Another "green" tax break is for renewable energy additions made to your home. The Department of
Energy includes "solar energy systems (including solar water heating and solar electric systems), small wind
systems, geothermal heat pumps, and residential fuel cell and microturbine systems". Home owners can
get a tax credit of up to 30% of the cost of these improvements. When you consider how much money this type of renewable energy will save you in lower
electric bills over the years and combine that with the 30% tax credit, greening your home begins to look like
a pretty smart move.
Weather is the #1
cause of high bills
HOT WEATHER -Lowering your thermostat
to stay comfortable in humid weather
causes your A/C to run longer, which in-
creases energy use.
COLD WEATHER -Heating is two to three
times more expensive than cooling. Peo-
ple also tend to take longer showers in
colder weather, which increases water
heating costs.
