2. SERVICE ACTIVITIES
2.1. Laboratory Service: Necropsy Duty:
Involves gross examination of whole animals, microscopic evaluation of appropriate tissues and interpretation of ancillary tests to arrive at a disease diagnosis. Based on these findings, veterinarians or producers can make informed decisions regarding treatment and/or disease management procedures.
Biopsy Duty:
Involves microscopic examination of biopsy and necropsy tissues to establish morphologic, etiologic, and disease or differentials diagnoses. Suggestions for additional testing required for definitive diagnosis may be made. When possible, prognosis and helpful background information is provided.
Cytology Duty:
Involves microscopic examination of blood, bone marrow, tissue lesions and urine specimens to determine differential or definitive diagnosis. Recommendations are made concerning additional testing that may confirm diagnosis.
Telephone Consultation:
Involves discussing case management, recommending additional diagnostic tests, providing information concerning proper sample submission to veterinarians, owners, and producers, and answering general veterinary-related questions from the veterinarians and general public.
