1. Surrealist- “surrealism definition. A movement in art and literature that flourished in the

early twentieth century. Surrealism aimed at expressing imaginative dreams and visions free

from conscious rational control. Salvador Dali was an influential surrealist painter; Jean

Cocteau was a master of surrealist film.”

Examples:

Hurricane- Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Everlong- Foo Fighters.

Knives Out- Radiohead.

2. Pastiche- “an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period”.

Examples:

Only Girl-Rihanna.

Last Friday Night (TGIF) - Katy Perry.

The Edge of Glory- Lady Gaga.

3. Parody - “an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.” “Produce a humorously exaggerated imitation of (a writer, artist, or genre).”

Examples:

Bad Blood Parody- Taylor Swift. Cheerleader Parody –OMI. Uptown Funk Parody- Mark Ronson.

4. Homage- “special honour or respect shown publicly”

Examples:

Girls Chase Boys- Ingrid Michaelson. Expendable Youth- Slayer. Pink Lemonade- Kittie.
