TOP TIPS FORBEACH SAFETYTO ENSURE YOUR BEACH VISIT IS A SAFE ONE, BE SUN SMART AND FOLLOW THESE IMPORTANT TIPS:
USEFULINFORMATION
The Perth sun can be very strong soalways remember to cover up by wearinga hat, applying sun screen and taking ashade protector.
Swim between the red and yellow flags on
a beach. They indicate there is a lifesavingservice operating and the lifeguards havechosen this section of the beach as it hasthe safest swimming conditions.
Read all warning signs which have beenplaced at the beach. These signs maycontain special warnings or currentconditions regarding the surf.
Swim with a friend or near otherswimmers, that way if you do get intotrouble you will easily be noticed.
If you do find yourself caught in a strongcurrent or a rip, do not try to swim againstit, instead save your energy. If you arehaving difficulty in the water, stay calm andraise your arm in the air for help. Lifesavers
who patrol the beaches are watching thewater and this will gain their attention.
If you are unsure of the depth of thewater, then do not run and dive into thesurf. If you should accidentally hit asandbank you could be seriously injured. It is much better to enter the surf andcheck the depth of the water first.
Beach Safety Services
Every major beach along the Sunset Coast ispatrolled by Surf Lifesaving Guards, so if youare not a good swimmer or are unsure of thesurf conditions, just ask a lifesaver for advice.
