In September you will be learning about a world of numbers, understanding how
and why they shape our world today and discovering where they originally came
from. Maths is extremely important to your learning.
Without using a calculator, time yourself to see how long it takes you to complete
the questions below.
Addition & Subtraction
Multiplication & Division
Fractions, Decimals & Percentages

Geography Geography tells us about our planet and the world we live in. You will learn about
different places, the continents and countries as well as the oceans, rivers, deserts and mountains on our planet.
We will look at facts about natural environments and landforms and will discuss how
people live in different parts of the world, you will learn about different cultures, traditions and challenges and about what makes our planet liveable.
In geography you will also learn about the effects that pollution, natural disasters,
wars and conflict have on the people around the world and how to protect our environment so we can help to preserve the earth for future generations.
Geography is split into two sections; human and physical geography.
Human Geography is the study of where and how people live. It is about industry, peoples’ lives, development, wealth etc.
Physical geography is the study of the Earth’s natural features. It is about the land, sea and environment around us. Landforms are natural features formed by rivers,
sea, ice and volcanoes
Look at the words and ideas in the table below, can you separate them into the 2
sections of geography? Put an H in the box if they are related to human geography,
put a P in the box if they are related to physical geography. Could some of them be
both?

6. Weather 15. Culture 24. Tourism
7. Global Warming 16. Migration 25. Environmental management
8. Population 17. Hurricanes 26. Geology
9. Mountains 18 Transport 27. Energy
Which of these would you most like to learn about in geography? Explain why.
How many of the continents and oceans can you name?
On the map, label the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Check your spelling and make
sure they all start with a capital letter!
Can you add any of the landmarks to your world map?
History
In year 7 you will spend the year learning about changes in Britain over a 1000-year
period. From the Battle of Hastings to the Industrial Revolution, you will learn about
how the lives of the British people changed and were influenced by factors such as
war, religion, science and technology.
How is time divided up?
Step one: Take off the last 2 numbers of the year e.g. 1342 = 1342 = 13
Step two: add ONE e.g. 13 + 1 = 14 So, 1342 is in the 14th Century
Can you work out which century the following dates would be in?
a) 1666 = b) 1066 = c) 410 =
d) 1914 = e) 1819 = f) 2005 =

TASK 3: You will need to be able to put dates into the correct century. There is a special rule to
help you work this out.
What are BC, BCE, AD and CE?
Historians often talk about years as being BC or BCE and AD or CE. This is another
way of dividing time. It makes it easier when talking about large areas of time.
BC and BCE
BC means Before Christ and refers to the time BEFORE Jesus was alive. Many
historians now use BCE that means Before Common Era as not everyone believes in
Jesus. The Common Era is the years 0—2016 so BEFORE common era is earlier than
the year 0.
AD and CE
AD stands for Anno Domini and refers to the time after Christ. CE means common
era which is any time from the year 0.
Primary and Secondary Sources
In History we get our evidence from two different types of sources:
TASK 4: Using the information above, add in the missing words.
BC and BCE
BC means B______ C______ and refers to the time BEFORE J______ was alive. Many
historians now us BCE that means B______ C________ E_____ as not everyone believe in
Jesus. The Common Era is the y_______ 0—2016 so BEFORE common era is earlier than
the year 0.
AD and CE
AD stands for A____ D______ and refers to the time after C______. CE means common
era which is any t_____ from the year 0.
Primary sources were made or written at the time an event happened.
TASK 5: Using the information above, add in the missing words
Once we know the type of historical evidence we have, we need to
decide if it was made at the time of the event and therefore is a _ _ _
_ _ _ _ source; or if it has been made later by people who weren’t at
the event, making it a __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ source.
Religious Studies
The most exciting part of RE is that it is about people and what they believe in. Since
we are all people, RE is relevant to all of us!
You do not have to be religious to have beliefs. A belief is simply something you think
is true, without really having proof. For example, I might believe that animals have a
soul or that after you die, you can be reborn into a different body. Our beliefs can
be things we have been brought up to believe, they can be based on what we see
in the news or read in the media. They can also be influenced by our friends and
even celebrities!
Can you write down 5 things that you believe and explain why you believe this?

WRITING TASK
Use the sentence builder below to write a small
paragraph with 2 or 3 sentences to describe what you
like to do in Spanish.
We use these tables called sentence builders in
Spanish to help you make complex sentences in an
easy way. You choose a word or phrase from each
column to make a sentence.
E.g. Siempre me gusta montar en bici porque es muy
divertido pero no es creativo. I always like to ride my
bike because it is very fun, but it is not creative.

Design & Technology Welcome to Design & Technology at Bedlington Academy!
It will be great to meet you all in the new school year. Each week you will have 1hr of Materials and 1hr of Food, where you will get the opportunity to develop and
practice a wide range of practical skills. Design & Technology encourages creativity, problem solving and being able to respond to specific client
needs. Within Food we will also look at the importance of healthy lifestyles and investigate the wonders of food science.
Materials This project involves designing a package for a food product.
1) Choose a package made by food companies. What are they made out of? Why was this material chosen? What information can be found on the packaging (weight, product description, ingredients, logo, picture, nutrition information…)
Task: Draw an image of the packaging. Use colour and draw in
3D if you can.
3) What happens to the materials once they have been used. (a) Can they be recycled? __________________ (b) Can they be used again? _________________ (c) Can the packaging be made from any other materials?___________________
4) Task: Design your own packaging, using the information you have learnt. Consider the following:
• Appearance - Is it attractive and eye-catching? Does it make the consumer want to pick it up and look at the contents?
• Function - Does it hold the contents safely and securely? Is it suitable for its
intended job?
• Safety - Will the food be kept fresh? Will it be damaged?
• Reliability - Is the box strong enough for the purpose? Will it last for the intended
storage life?
Do this on a blank sheet of paper. Draw in pencil and add colour. Include all the
information you think should be on packaging-what did you find when you looked at the
food packaging?
2) Disassemble the packaging. How was it made? If the
packaging is a box, what is the net like? Are there any
other nets which will make the same box? Task: Draw the
net of the box (what the shape looks like when you take
it apart)
Food Healthy Eating:
Eating different foods helps us to have a healthy and balanced diet.
Link to Eatwell guide resources: www.foodafactoflife.org.uk
Task 1) Using the INET research the Eatwell Guide and find out:
1) The 5 key groups of
the Eatwell Guide
2) Find out which
groups are the
largest on the
Eatwell guide and
why?
3) List 4 starchy foods
4) Look at the protein
food group and
name four plant
protein foods
Task 2) Use the blank copy of the Eatwell Guide and write in (or draw) all the foods
you ate yesterday.
1) Was it healthy and
balanced?
2) How could you
improve it further?
Extension Tasks:-
1) Can you find out what the Government 8 guidelines are for healthy eating?
2) Find out more about the Government initiative of “Eating 5 a day”.

environment. We can’t wait to see your ideas for contemporary theatre in the drama studio.
6. They have blue spit
Real witches have blue spit, like ink (they even use
it to write with). If you look very carefully you might
be able to see a slight blueish tinge on their teeth.
Task: Using the descriptions of the Witches, write/perform your own play.
Consider choosing either a comedy or horror genre.
Don’t forget to use stage directions so that the actors know how to say the line.
3. They'll have large nose-holes
Witches have the most amazing powers of smell and therefore have slightly larger
nose-holes than ordinary people. They can even smell out a child who is standing on
the other side of the street on a pitch-black night, and the cleaner you are, the more
smelly you are to a witch. Witches call them stink-waves.
Choose a task from the following list:
1. Are you part of a stage school? If so, tell me about any performances that you
have been in.
2. Have you ever been to the Theatre? If so, tell me what you have been to see and
describe what you liked about it.
3. Do you have a favourite film? If so, describe the movie and tell me who your
favourite actor is and why.

Bullying vs Cyberbullying
Use the table to compare cyberbullying
with bullying in person. There may be some
areas which are the same, but some are
different. You can use the bottom boxes to
add any ideas of your own.
Bullying in Person Cyberbullying
The bullying happens verbally, socially
or physically, usually at one particular
place.
The person can avoid the bully when
they are away from that place.
The person usually knows who the
bully is.
Other people at that place or in that
group might know about the bullying.
The bully can see if the person gets
upset or angry.
Can have a long-lasting effect on the
person being bullied.
There are ways to deal with the bullies,
such as talking to an adult.
