Introduction
This presentation will explain our 5 day factory visit at
Bibette Clothing Manufacturers and all of the activities
that we did.
Including the Production Planning department, the Work
Study department and the Quality department.

History
Bibette registered with a council in January 1966
Bibette factory started off in Salt River, Cape Town
Eventually moved premises to Lansdowne and will soon
move with the Seardel group inE
pping. The new premises will hold other clothing manufacturers
namely Bonwit and Monviso
The Seardel group is the holding company for these
clothing manufacturers

Production planning
A new garment is received in the productionplanning department from the design center.
This garment is kept track of from the delivery
date , all the paper work & documents are
checked and notice is taken to the fabricbecause it is the most important component.
The Investronica department will then make the
marker for the garment after that has been
done the garment will be graded.

Work StudyDepartment
Time study
Time study looks at the work of one operator and
how much work they can do in a specific time period
The work study officer requests a study on one ofthe operators in the line.
Only a supervisor can request a time study
The study usually take between 15-30 minutes
Bibette clothing manufacturers uses the capacity offive cycles.

When doing a time study
Stop watches are used
Study must be in centiminutes, with the bottom showing
1000 kilowatts.
Study starts as soon as the operator touches thegarment.
When finished the watch is stopped when the garment is
put back on the rail
The time is written down & rounded off.

Security receives a Purchase Order
The Bin Card has all the information of the

Inspection
Rolls are taken at random from the bin and checked for flaws and slubs
About 2 meters is used
Fabric buyers send an approval swatch for comparison
Pieces from the same bin are taken to the Light Box
The room is completely dark
Different lights are used for different customers;
TL 84 : Woolworths
DL 65 : Queenspark, Edgars and Foschini

Each roll has a

QUALITYDEPARTMENTMEETING
Occurs between quality managers and other examiners
Discuss topics such as repairs, rejects and the quality
standards on the lineQuality managers have meetings with customers, for
them to be reassured that they in good hands and their
own standards are being met
Discuss motivation with employees to get the garmentright the first time around
All aspects of how to up their rating with the customers
are discussed as well

Examination
On the line
Examiner walks up anddown the line checkingeach operation
Make sure the garmentis made the correct wayand meet standards
It is then checked bythe last examiner onthe line, once thegarment is made up
Off the line
Roving examiners areresponsible for 3 lines andchecks the garments
Stickers are placed on thegarments
Quality audit report is filledout
She examines each sizeagainst a Size SpecificationSheet given by thecustomer

REJECTS AND REPAIRS
Done by roving examiners and in the despatchdepartment by auditors
Each measuring point is measured against the Size
Specification Sheet
If not perfect, the style may failAllowance of 1 or 2 cm can sometimes be pushed
through
A repair and reject card is used by supervisors and
placed on the boardAt the end of the line for easy access

Auditing and Dispatch
Auditor examines the finished work on an AuditSheet
Marked with orange stickers indicating wherethe problem is.
Specification Report is filled in At the Dispatch department garments leave to
shops
Packaged in boxes and counted, known as flatpacking
Outside quality controller may come inrandomly and select a percentage to fit ondummies or models
Use the same lighting as Woolworths
