port just compiled In the office of AC Nelson state superIntendent of publie Instruction Salt Lake contributes21017 of this number

Ogden and Murray show decreases inthe children of school age This can beaccounted for at Murray through theremoval of many families when thesmelters closed down but the decreaseat Ogden was rather surprising Thereare now 253 children less than In 1908

between the ages of 6 and IS years InOgden as shown by the report whileMurray shows a decrease of only 47

Contending that nearly aU or SixthWest and that the crossings of ThIrdSouth FIlth South and Sixth Southstreets aU belong to the companythrough franchises granted by SaltLake the Denver Rio Grande Railroad company yesterday filed a longanswer to the suit of Carl A Ek andabout fifty others to compel the railroad company to open ThIrd South andFourth South streets now shut ort byfences and company buildings

The Rio Grande company claims thatIt owns between the center of SixthWest street to the West line of FIfthWest street at Second South also atFourth South Sixth South and SeventhSouth streets It admIts that fencesand buildings have been erected whichstop traffic from east to west on thesestreets at the tracks but claims this I

right Is given the company In a number of franchIses from Salt Lake datIng as far back as 1SGT and runnIngup to 1906 All of the later ordinancesare mentioned Including those of January 25 1901 and January 3 1906 bywhich the railroad company was giventhe right to block the streets
