Do you feel that you belong to a particular music scene?I feel that I belong in a more indie/rock scene,
though I do listen to a wide range of music and enjoy and appreciate the majority of
styles/genres.
Do you think that people assume things about you because of your musical
tastes?Perhaps people who are strongly interested in different styles of music to my main interest (indie/rock) may think of me in a different way, but most of my friendship group listen to the same music as me. Some of the music i enjoy is in the charts, eg Ed Sheeran. I don't feel I am personally judged for my taste. However, I do think other people who's music perhaps isn't in the Top 40 charts etc, such as rave music, may get judged for the genre they opt towards.
Will there always be music scenes?
Yes, I think there will be. Everybody has their own sound, taste and
preference, and there will always be people who's idea of good music will clash. People are always defensive
about their music taste.
What does it take for a music scene to become successful? Consider the artists
themselves, the culture, the style / fashion, any technology involved and any
other trends.I think that the music scene has to have a hint of individuality or something fresh and new for it to become successful, or it will just be another artist doing the old same thing. Plus their sound has to be catchy and perhaps edgy for it to stick in peoples heads and spread across different crowds and audiences. Furthermore, I feel style/fashion and general look is an important factor too, such as George Craigs sophisticated yet casual has definatly influenced his fans. Also, artists are definitely more appealing when they are attractive and stylish, as they are seen as an idol and someone we wish to be like.
Can you think of any genres that rely on the influence of
any of these?Indie, Rock, Pop, RnB
