Dual frequency is happening now !
8
• Dual Frequency is coming now:
• AVAILABLE NOW: dual frequency satellites (Galileo and GPS) already working today with L5/E5
• Enabled by semiconductor’s industry development
• Pushed by the use of applications more and more demanding in terms of location
• L1/E1 – L5/E5 is the solution to choose:
• Classical advantage of dual frequency (removal of ionospheric errors)
• multipath mitigation due to E5/L5 higher chipping rate (i.e. 10x sharper correlation peaks)
BROADCOM launched a first dual freq.

The European GNSS Programmes
NEW SERVICES – EN ROUTE !Programme decision taken : High Accuracy and
Authentication.
Authentication will be based on a
E1 Navigation Message Authentication:
Integrated in the E1 OS. Aimed at consumer usersand offered for free. Already prototyped and undertesting
E6 Spreading Code Authentication: based on the E6 Spreading Code Encryption.
High Accuracy will be based on PPP transmission in E6B.
FREE PROVISION
Gradual implementation between 2018 and 2020
• OS-NMA contributes to mitigate GNSS vulnerabilities
• Clear differentiator w.r.t. other GNSS available to the civil community
• Fully backward compatible
• Follows crypto standards and recommendations
• Little performance degradation w.r.t. non-authenticated PVT (accuracy, availability and TTFF)
OS Navigation Message Authentication

Galileo High Accuracy
11
High Accuracy (HA): receiver positioning accuracy at decimetre level
Broadcast corrctions in real time across the globe (PPP – Precise Point Positioning) via Galileo E6 without the need for an additional communication channel
Does not require proximity to base stations to access corrections
Triple frequency to further increase the accuracy
Improved line-of-sight and better coverage at high latitudes
Advantages of Galileo CS-HA

MORE IS COMING– SOON ! Part of the I/NAV message capacity is unused due to Safety of Life re-profiling
Redesign of the I/NAV message:
• enhances reconstruction of the transmitted Galileo System Time through providing robust symbol level synchronization patterns,
• significantly improves the Time-to-First-Fix through shortening of the message systematic time-to-ephemeris and time-to-clock correction,
• improves robustness of navigation message demodulation in degraded channels for E1 OS.
The target is to make the new I/NAV features available for all Galileo satellites by FOC
FULLY BACKWARD COMPATIBLE WITH LEGACY RECEIVERS
• Open Service:
‒ Improved availability for range domain (assumption of around 18 operational satellites)
‒ Position Domain performance levels
‒ New Key Performance Indicators as targets (e.g. otherpercentiles in the error distributions, support of ARAIM…)
• SAR
‒ Improved performance for forward link
‒ Introduction of Return Link Service
• High Accuracy Service demonstrator
• Service Definition Review on-going
• Declaration in Spring 2019

From the Galileo standpoint, “Navigation Message Authentication” is defined as the ability of the system to guarantee to the users that they are utilising navigation data that has not been modified and comes from the Galileo satellites and not from any other source.

Precise Point Positioning (PPP) – a network of global reference stations computes ephemeris and clock errors that are made available to users. Having the ionospheric error removed by the use of dual-freq and the tropospheric contribution reduced by means of models, the overall error is dm-level
