Initially we used other oil & gas facilities to trainstaff (2003)
• 80 operators of whom 21 work in the Central Control Room (CCR)
• The operators had various backgrounds when they were employed and therefore needed a lot of process training.
• The operators were temporary based at different plants to learn
about oil and gas processes such as:
– LNG plants (around the world)
– Statoil refinery
– Statoil Offshore facilities
– Statoil Gas facilities

in three parts:
– Systems training, including “On the Job Training” (OJT)
– Simulator training
– Vendor courses

On the Job Training (OJT)
• Routines and procedures for normal operation
• Practical part of systems training
• Practical tasks in the plant
• System competence test
• The OJT was executed by external consultants

Simulator Training
• Two weeks course for all operators
• Three weeks advanced course for CCR operators
• The training included:
– Process and control logic understanding
– Normal operation
– Process start-up and shut-down
– Handling of unplanned situations
– Emergency training
The engineering simulator was and is also used for verification of process design, control strategy and safety systems
Few of the Snøhvit operators had LNG experience.
The dynamic simulator was used for developing process skills.
