THE WEEK AHEAD
In Our Parish
June 30, 2019– 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Anyone who wishes to follow Christ must learn to let go of the past, live in the present, and let God take care of the future. Nothing and no one should keep us from our resolve to follow Jesus. As Jesus was resolutely determined to go to Jerusalem (where he would be betrayed, suffer and die), we who want to follow him must also stay focused on him alone. Let us ask ourselves: “What is it that is keeping me from following Jesus? How is my heart? The heart of a disciple/follower of Jesus must be light and free. A disciple with a heavy heart, an imprisoned heart, cannot be effective in his/her mission and ministry. Let us continue to be the visible face of
God’s love and compassion by what we say and
do. Amen.

In May 2020, Father Steve will lead a Pilgrimage to the Holy Sites of Ireland, including a special stop at the Seminary of the first Bishop of Richmond. In honor of the Diocesan Bicentennial, Father Steve has arranged a stop in the Town of Kilkenny, where Patrick
Kelly studied before being ordained a priest in 1802. In 1820 Father Kelly was consecrated Bishop and came to Richmond to serve as our first Bishop. We will also visit the Cliffs of Moher and among many other Holy sites, we will visit the Shrine of our Lady of Knock. We celebrate Mass daily. Please contact Grace Jones at the Parish Office questions or to sign up for this amazing Pilgrimage. Please come to the informational meeting on Sunday, July 21st at 3pm at the Church.

ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON AUGUST 1st
FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM A Few Benefits of Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration #1 – Every Holy Hour we make so pleases the Heart of Jesus that it is recorded in Heaven and retold for all eternity! (Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta) #2 – The spiritual lives of our families are strengthened through our Holy Hour. (Blessed John Paul II) #3 – All the angels of heaven gaze in ecstasy at the image left on your soul after each holy hour you make in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. (Excerpt from ‘Letters To A Brother Priest’) #4 – The only time our Lord asked the Apostles for anything was the night He went into agony. Not for activity did He plead but for an Hour of companionship. (Archbishop Fulton Sheen) #5 – A Holy Hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament is worth more than a thousand years of human glory. (St. Padre Pio) #6– There is no doubt that a flood of graces will descend upon your family and the world if more souls would become docile pupils of adoration. (Blessed Pope John XXIII) #7 – Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament consoles a soul far beyond what the world can offer. (St. Alphonsus Ligouri)
Although the door is open to all, we do need people to commit to being an honor guard for just one hour to ensure Our Lord is never left alone. Please prayerfully consider participating in this beautiful devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. POC: Dick and Sue Meeker, [email protected], 757-228-7775.
The Vocation Cross The cross is available each weekend to any family or individual who would like to take it home and pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and return it the following weekend.

The feast day of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was officially established in 1765 and was celebrated this year on June 28th. It is celebrated because the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus announces to the world the unfathomable love and mercy of Jesus Christ. His Sacred Heart burns with love for us each and every day!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Peace & Justice: Pray the Rosary and always hope for peace in our world! On 6-2-2019, Most Reverend Bishop Barry Knestout of the Diocese of Richmond issued the following in response to tragedy at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, which occurred one month ago on 5-31-2019:
“As you mourn the loss of friends, neighbors or family, I mourn with you and want to assure you of the sympathy and solidarity of all the people of the Diocese of Richmond. We join you in prayer and by being present with you to grieve the loss of the 12 souls who died and others injured in (the) violent shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. I hope in some small way this prayer and support brings comfort to you and to the Virginia Beach community. This is your home and I know words fall short in easing the pain of this time, but offer them to you in the hope that in being united with you in thought and prayer, we might also help you carry the burden of this loss.
We feel sadness in our hearts, especially for those whom the sting of this loss is so much greater, for those who have lost a loved one. We know there is grief, and possibly also anger at the injustice of this senseless loss of innocent life.”
“It is in this time of loss that we turn to our Heavenly Father in prayer. To ease our grief – it is God who provides the strength and peace to sustain us in times of loss and distress. I invite all the faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond to join me in prayer on the Feast of the Ascension for the people of Virginia Beach.
We hold in prayer the many who are hurting as a result of this tragedy. We pray for the families who lost a loved one, for the injured recovering in the hospital, for the medical personnel working to comfort and care for the suffering, for our law enforcement community who so valiantly faced the danger at the Municipal Center. We pray for the co-workers mourning the loss of a friend and most especially for those who died:
