Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
August 16, 2015 Unless you eat the flesh of the
Son of Man and drink his blood,
you do not have life within you.
— John 6:53
AT THE TABLE In today’s first reading, Wisdom is imagined as a woman
rich in poise and grace. She moves smoothly and confi-
dently about her temple‑like home. She doesn’t flutter
about, nervous with worry. Wisdom sends her maidens to
invite all to her open house. The guests do not possess any
particular genius or insight. They need only be a people of
good will and common sense. They are summoned to
leave behind foolishness and to find for themselves a
place at Wisdom’s table. There they may and can eat and
drink deeply. Today’s Gospel draws us back to the table
of the Eucharist. Jesus addresses those who seek to under-
stand his words and, sadly, those who seek to avoid them.
As people born of God, we are called and equipped to
seek God’s will and act on it. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

CYO NEWS-AUGUST
A New Fundraiser
We are, as every parish, always in need of money to con-
tinue the work of proclaiming the Gospel and in meeting
the many demands of charity. We have instituted a new
program that will be a simple fundraiser that all of you
with computers can help with and which is as easy as
pie. Goodsearch.com has provided over $ 11 million to
various charities since its inception. Every time you
search for something like the location of a store or the
name of an actor, a penny will be credited to the parish.
Simply go to goodsearch.com and click on “Find a cause
to support” and enter St Vincent and scroll down to find
St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Akron, Ohio. You
may then sign in (not absolutely necessary) and when-
ever you search you’ll be automatically contributing to
our parish. You will also find coupons available for other
online shopping (called GoodShop) which will also con-
tribute. We are now signed up here at St. Vincent. I
can’t think of a time when I haven’t found what I’m
looking for. It works, please consider it.
Thanks,
Fr. Dennis McNeil
KABALE DIOCESE MISSION APPEAL We welcome Fr. Julius Turyatoranwa who will be speak-
ing on behalf of the Kabale Mission Appeal. Kabale Dio-
cese is one of the 19 dioceses of Uganda, situated in the
rural extreme southwestern corner of the country-about
280 miles from the capital city (Kampala). The diocese
borders Rwanda on the South West and the Democratic
Republic of Congo on the western side and serves a popu-
lation of 1,500,000 people, of whom approximately
700,000 are Roman Catholic. We are seeking assistance
for our long-term Kabale Diocese Orphaned and Vulner-
able Children Program. Through our foster home care
program, we provide out-reach support to orphaned chil-
dren the vast majority of whom have lost both parents and
are left all alone to fend for themselves. We provide them
with school tuition, clothing, and healthcare. We are cur-
rently supporting 370 children out of well over 20,000
greatly in need of help. We are also in need of support
toward Rushoroza Health Center which Kabale Diocese is
in the process of constructing. This health center will
serve a critical need because of its location in a rural area
that serves mostly the poor, and an area that continues to
grapple diseases such as malaria, typhoid, HIV/Aids, TB,
among others. These life-threatening diseases continue to
claim a lot of lives, given also that the area has a ratio of
one doctor/3000 people. Once completed, Rushoroza
Health Center will serve a population of about 700,000
people. We hope that you will give generously to this
Mission Appeal.
SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE The new school year is just around the corner! Ohio
Catholic Federal Credit Union is happy to announce a
school supply drive benefiting Metro Catholic School in
Cleveland. Stop by any one of Ohio Catholic's five branch
locations to drop off new school supplies any time during
the month of August. Students specifically need notebook
paper, folders, glue sticks, red pens, crayons, magic
markers, calculators, and protractors. Metro Catholic
School educates approximately 565 students from preschool
to 8th grade, and is the only Cleveland Catholic elementary
school to provide extensive programs for refugee students
and those with cognitive learning disabilities. Additionally,
80 percent of students come from families below the
Federal poverty level. For branch locations and hours,
please visit www.ohiocatholicfcu.com.
OZANAM CENTER NEEDS YOUR HELP Jesus said “I will be with you for only a short time but the
poor will always be with you.” We at the Ozanam Center
realized that 9 years ago when we started the Center to help
those who are in need with food, clothing and furniture.
Now at the beginning of our ninth year, we also realize that
we need your help. If you would like to help on a Saturday,
we would love to have you. Just come at 9:30am to 93 Kent
Street in Akron and we will put you to work. Not available
on Saturday? We could use some help sorting clothes and
filling the clothing room, re-arranging and organizing the
furniture bank, some office stuff and of course cleaning the
facility during the week. Also, if you have a truck and
would like to pick up our orders at the Akron Canton
Regional Food Bank, we would love to have you. You
don’t have to be a St. Vincent de Paul member to help.
Please pray about this and let us know if you can help.
Please call Jim or Cathie Perusek at 330-467-5762 if you
would like to help or need further information.

2015 FIRST STEP PROGRAMS CONTINUING EDUCATION REGARDING
MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE IN THE CATHOLIC
CHURCH
Attempting to pick up the pieces of one’s life after the
tragedy of divorce is complex and demanding. One of the
significant issues that a person faces is their place in the
Church. Does the Church still care about me even though I
am divorced? Am I allowed to go to Mass? Can I receive
communion? How can the Church help me heal? If I decide
to marry again, what do I have to do? The Tribunal of the
Diocese of Cleveland is continuing to offer its very
successful First Step Program, in order to help individuals
deal with these questions. The Church’s teachings on
marriage, divorce, and remarriage are often misunderstood.
This program is offered to help everyone; especially those
who have experienced divorce, learn more about Catholic
teaching in these areas.
Everyone is welcome to:
• Deepen their knowledge of the Church’s teaching on
marriage.
• Learn about the Church’s ministry to the divorced/
separated in the Diocese.
• Hear the true facts about the annulment process and how
to submit a case.
• Discover a path to healing after divorce. The remaining
schedule for the general meetings in 2015 is:
• Tuesday, September 15th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Parish, Cuyahoga Falls, at 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, October 13th, at St. Ambrose Parish, Brunswick,
at 7 p.m.
We encourage everyone to come to heal, come to learn,
come open to the spirit. Note: The Diocese of Cleveland no
longer requires any fees for this process. For more

FAITH AND VALUES APPEAL FOR EDUCATION Catholic Schools are communities of faith, knowledge and
service. Catholic Schools exist to form young people in the
Catholic faith. Academic success and rigorous achievement
mark our schools as outstanding institutions. Essential to
the Christian message is the command of Christ to serve
others. Our students are at their best when they exemplify
in their actions this command, and they do so daily.
Students, their parents, grandparents and other family
members sacrifice to provide a Catholic education and are
grateful for tuition assistance provided through the Faith &
Value Appeal for Education. Please pray that the
generosity of our parishioners will continue to support the
formation of our youth in Catholic Schools as they are
taught to be the very best that they can be.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVES Parents - imitate Jesus who gave his life so others may
have life. Often children consume large amounts of
parental time and energy. The sacred vocation of parents
directs them to give their lives so their children may live.
Remember to replenish your life energy through the
Eucharist. By consuming the body and blood of Christ, He
promises you will have life and grace within you.

and those whose opinions we reject. For both have labored
in the search for truth, and both have helped us in the
finding of it. —Thomas Aquinas
