IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission Begins This Fall!
In 2015, a planning study was conducted to identify the local Archdiocese’s present-day challenges and address the needs of our Archdiocesan seminary, St. Mary’s, as well as our Catholic Schools and Faith Formation. As a result of the data and responses collected, Cardinal DiNardo initiated a major capital campaign fittingly titled, IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission to raise $150,000,000. The campaign kicked off in Spring of 2017 and conducted the first block prior to Hurricane Harvey hitting Southeast Texas. The campaign was placed on hold so the Archdiocese could focus on emergency response and relief efforts. Although recovery will take years, it is time to relaunch IGNITE and address the new realities of the Archdiocese. At its heart, this campaign is about supporting our future by focusing on our parishes, Future Disaster Recovery Fund, Rebuilding our Parishes and Schools in Light of Hurricane Harvey, our future priests, Catholic Education and Faith Formation. The $150 million will be used for the following purposes:
Individual Parish Needs - $50 million
Future Disaster Recovery Fund - $20 million
Rebuilding Our Parish & Schools - $20 million
St. Mary’s Seminary - $30 million
Catholic Education - $20 million
Faith Formation - $10 million

St. Pius V CAMPAIGN NEWSLETTER
St. Pius V Catholic Church July 22, 2018
Apoyo Parroquial - $50 millones
Fondo de Recuperación para Desastres Futuros - $20 millones
Restauración de Parroquias y Escuelas – $20 millones
Seminario de Santa María - $30 millones

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150
Primera lectura Jer 23, 1-6
Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song
First Reading JER 23:1-6
Woe to the shepherds who mislead and scatter the flock of my pasture, says the LORD. Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Is-
rael, against the shepherds who shepherd my people: You have scattered my sheep and driven them away. You have not cared for them,
but I will take care to punish your evil deeds. I myself will gather the remnant of my flock from all the lands to which I have driven them
and bring them back to their meadow; there they shall increase and multiply. I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd them
so that they need no longer fear and tremble; and none shall be missing, says the LORD. Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD,
when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David; as king he shall reign and govern wisely, he shall do what is just and right in the land. In
his days Judah shall be saved, Israel shall dwell in security. This is the name they give him: "The LORD our justice."
Responsorial Psalm PS 23 R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Second Reading EPH 2:13-18
Brothers and sisters: In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, he who
made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh, abolishing the law with its commandments and legal
claims, that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile both with God, in
one body, through the cross, putting that enmity to death by it. He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those
who were near, for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
Gospel MK 6:30-34
The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a
deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. So they went
off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot
from all the towns and arrived at the place before them. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for
them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear friends,
Beginning with the first Sunday in August, we will start using the new translation of the Spanish Missal at all the
masses in Spanish. If you attend one of the masses in English, this will not affect you, but we encourage you to
celebrate this historic step with our Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters.
As you no doubt recall, about 6 years ago we began using the new translation of the English Missal. Until now,
however, the U.S. has not had a Spanish translation of the Missal for use in the United States. We have used
missals approved in and for other countries, for example, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, etc.
Working with the international commission for the new Spanish translation, the US Bishops produced their own
Spanish edition and submitted it to Rome for approval. They received approval earlier this year and the new
Missal was introduced at Pentecost. This will be the only Spanish missal that may be used for mass.
Most the changes affect the prayers and actions of the priest, but there are some changes for the assembly as well,
particularly a new emphasis on singing all of the acclamations. We will publish a page next week with all of the
changes so that you can be prepared for the 1st Sunday in August.
God bless you.
Fr. Joe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Queridos amigos,
A partir del primer domingo de agosto, comenzaremos a usar la nueva traducción del Misal en español. Si asistes a
una de las misas en inglés, esto no te afectará, pero te animamos a celebrar este paso histórico con nuestros
hermanos y hermanas hispanohablantes.
Como sin duda recuerda, hace 6 años comenzamos a usar la nueva traducción del Misal en inglés. Hasta ahora, sin
embargo, nosotros en los EE. UU. no hemos tenido nuestra propia traducción del Misal. Hemos utilizado misales
aprobados en y para otros países, por ejemplo, España, México, Ecuador, etc.
Trabajando con la comisión internacional para la nueva traducción al español, los obispos de Estados Unidos
produjeron su propia edición en español y la enviaron a Roma para su aprobación. Recibieron la aprobación a
principios de este año y el nuevo Misal se presentó en Pentecostés. Este será el único misal español que se puede
usar para misa.
La mayoría de los cambios afectan las oraciones y las acciones del sacerdote, pero también hay algunos cambios
para la asamblea, particularmente un nuevo énfasis en cantar todas las aclamaciones. Por ejemplo, la aclamación
Eucharistica, “Annunciamos su muerte…” y el “Amen” al fin de la plegaria Eucharistica. Publicaremos una
página la próxima semana con todos los cambios para que pueda estar preparado para el primer domingo de
agosto.
Dios les bendiga.
