This summer we have been reminded that Jesus always ‘sticks’ with us
as we watched Sticky Jesus travel around the country and experience
adventures with different people. There have been pictures of Sticky Jesus’
adventures posted on the St. Peter Facebook page, Sunday School Facebook
page, and the bulletin board at church. It has been a wonderful and
adventurous summer for a lot of people!
You can see everything that Sticky Jesus experienced with the 8 high
school youth and 3 adults who spent 8 days on a service trip to Fort Morgan,
Colorado. God was with the group as they worshiped, served, and learned
with refugees and immigrants in Fort Morgan. God was also with them as
they returned home and shared their stories and experiences with friends,
family, and the congregation.
Sticky Jesus also went with 8 youth and 2 adults to Imago Dei Camp
for 6 days of confirmation camp. The youth experienced God through Bible
study, games, and worship while they played, prayed, and met new people at
camp. St. Peter Lutheran Church was able to pay for ½ of each confirmation
camper’s registration fee as a way to support and nurture the faith
development of our young people. Thank you for financially investing in the
youth as they grow in their faith and experience God in new ways!
The Sustainability Team took a picture with Sticky Jesus at a meeting
where they continued to ask questions about who we are as a congregation and
who God is calling us to be. The team has spent time talking about how they
experience God in the church and in their lives as they seek to learn more
about where God is leading us. They are preparing for their next training
event at the end of September. I am sure Sticky Jesus will go with them!
Did you know that people have worked hard all summer to stain the
exterior of the building and maintain the lawn and gardens? Sticky Jesus was
part of the fun! Work is also being done indoors to prepare areas for ministries
that begin again during the new academic year. God is with us when we do
the work of maintaining our building and make improvements for the future.
It was a busy summer and I had a blast taking Sticky Jesus with me on
all of my adventures. Sometimes, it is good to have a reminder that God is
always with me no matter where I go or what I do. Just for fun, count up how
many times I said ‘Sticky Jesus’ in this article and let me know the number
that you get. You might get a prize!
I pray that you are constantly aware of God’s presence in your lives and
that you know that Jesus always sticks with you. No matter where you go or
what you do, God is with you! This is a promise that was given in the waters
of baptism that can never be taken away. God is with us and will continue to
be with us as we begin a new academic year and start new routines at church.
Thanks be to God!

The Pray-Ground is in front of the worship space. It is intended
especially for families with young children, infants and toddlers,
recognizing that small kids are more engaged when they can see
what is going on. There are small tables and chairs, a baby
bouncer, and soft toys to help keep our littlest ones engaged
during worship. Caregivers are responsible for their children
while they are using the Pray-Ground, however, there are older youth and adults who are
familiar with the Pray-Ground, and are able to help care for young children in this area and
offer an extra set of hands when needed. We hope the Pray-Ground will enhance our time
together as we strive to welcome children of God of all ages in worship.

You may recall that about a year and a half ago Shalom hosted a "JOB FAIR" during
the Fellowship hour. We had a ton of participation and it was a roaring success! When
we wrapped up it was decided that we would indeed hold the job fair again, but that
we would hold it as part of Rally Sunday! That way - all the teams can have a kick off!
So, here's the deal. If you lead a team, at your next meeting please find out how
you'd like to participate and let me know! If you're on a team, at your next meeting
please bring this up to your team/leader (just in case they didn't make this list
somehow!) If you're not on a team...or are looking for extra teams to be on, mark
your calendar! This will be the day to find out all about the various teams and sign up
to attend a meeting! Here are some ideas...each group gets a table to design as they
see fit! Set up a display, play a video, offer “job descriptions,” include a signup sheet!
And...offering snacks always gets folks to your table. September 11th is shaping up to
be an exciting and busy day at St Peter! Rally Sunday, Gods Work Our Hands, Job
Fair and Sunday School Registration! Wow! Looking forward to hearing from
everyone!

By the time you read this, the warm weather will still be here, but the “official” part of
Summer will be down to the last few weeks. (You may sigh now.)
We had a great time at Family VBS Night, on August 17th.
By now, school supplies are probably all set in backpacks, maybe the children already know
who their new teachers will be, and the older kids may have class schedules. Some Fall sports
have begun training.
We have been getting ready for Fall activities, too! Our Official Start of Almost
Everything happens on Sunday, September 11th. What does that mean?
Return to two worship times: 8:00am and 10:30am,
Return of Coffee Fellowship! On this day, it will be in the Fellowship Hall, because
of the:
Job Fair at 9:15am, highlighting the various ministries here at St. Peter. This will
happen in the Fellowship Hall between worship services. Part of it will include:
Sunday School Registration: there will be a table at the Job Fair where parents can get
information, turn in forms, sign up to help, and more! Then they are invited to explore
the Job Fair with their children, make thank you cards, and enjoy the Coffee
Fellowship.
God’s Work Our Hands: you can take part in several projects for this national day of
service.
Make thank you cards for our local police and fire fighters
Help pack personal care kits for needy people around the world (Quad
rooms)
Help pack baskets of baked goodies to go with the thank you cards
Stay after 10:30am worship to deliver the goodie baskets to police and fire
stations, or
Help the Youth deliver all items collected for the Food Pantry to St.

It was another hot and humid summer day as we gathered for the monthly meal at St.
Peter’s Café on Thursday, August 18th. We were blessed with many donations that helped
with the meal: SCIO Farmer’s Market, Fred & Sheri Hutchison and the Northside Christian
Food Pantry.
Our menu consisted of: Creamy Cucumber Salad, Layered Tortilla Bake, Sweet Corn with
Green Peppers, Dinner Roll and Vanilla Ice Cream with Strawberries. We served 136
meals, another 3 meals went to shut-ins and donations were also made to Bridgeway.
Many hands went into the preparation, serving, set-up and clean-up of the meal of which we
are all so grateful: Jim Struve, Michele Nordhagen, Allison Markus, Joy Schildbach, Diane
Anderson, Jim Scheunert, Dick & Nancy Johnsen, Steve & Cindy Weina, Dan, Micah &

Michael & Jason Tian, Kevin & Carol Witt, Mike & Rich Saas, Dan & Cheryl Rostollan,

We are always looking for the Chef-of-the-Month participants (we will help with meal

PRAYER REQUESTSPRAYER REQUESTSPRAYER REQUESTSPRAYER REQUESTS
In order to honor our time in worship, respect requests that are shared, and help our
assisting ministers, we are asking that all prayer requests be written down and given to
the assisting minister before worship on Sunday mornings. We will still invite prayer
requests, but will no longer be verbally sharing prayer requests during the beginning of
worship. This means that if you would like to have a prayer request included in the
prayers during worship on Sunday mornings please write it down and give it to the
assisting minister who will be standing near the entrance to the worship space doors
before worship. In order to help this process, there are notecards available in several
boxes that are located near the doors of the worship space. Please take a notecard, legibly
write your prayer request, and hand it to the assisting minister before worship starts. It
may take some time to get used to this way of sharing prayer requests, but we feel that
being more intentional about the process in which prayer requests are shared will
strengthen our community and worship together.
