As we move onto our very first Sunday of Lent, you will notice a change in the music for Mass parts and in music as well, this and everything we do is to compliment the liturgy and help enhance a different atmosphere for every liturgical season. One common missconception is that when we are in lent we are meant to have “sad” music because we are in a solemn time. In reality solemn means formal and dignified.

The bread and wine are in loving memory of Marsha Hunter at the request of her sister in Christ, Kathleen Stellato.

PRO-LIFE News On February 22, 2018, Thomas Whitaker is scheduled to be executed by the State of Texas. Our Catholic faith calls us to pray for Thomas and for all victims of crime, and for an end to capital punishment here in the State of Texas. May God hear our prayers in support of all life.

LITURGY AND WORSHIP ~ LITURGIA Y CULTO Joyce Lubofsky

[email protected] ~ 281.333.3891 Ext. 333

Lent 2018 The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year. Lent is a penitential season and as such religious practice such as daily Mass, reception of the Sacrament of Penance, the devotion of the Stations of the Cross, works of charity and justice, and acts of self-denial are highly encouraged.

Stations of the Cross are prayed Friday nights at 7 PM in English and 8 PM in Spanish.

RCIA Rituals at the 9 AM Mass: This Sunday we send to Cardinal DiNardo for the Rite of Election those catechumens and candidates who are ready to receive their initiation sacraments at this year’s Easter Vigil. On the Second Sunday of Lent, we will celebrate the Penitential Rite for our elected Candidates, which is their final preparation for their First Penance. On the Third, Fourth and Fifth Sundays of Lent, we will celebrate the Scrutinies with our elected catechumens, as they deal with the reality of the sins they have committed (which will be washed away in the waters of Baptism at the Easter Vigil). Please plan to attend these Masses to support our brothers and sisters in their journey.

Lenten Penance Services with Confessions: Please note the dates of the Lenten Penance Services in our Deanery; all take place at 7 PM: Thurs. 2/22: St. Hyacinth, Deer Park; Tues. 2/27: St. Mary, La Porte; Wed. 2/28: St Luke the Evangelist, Sagemont; Thurs. 3/1: St. Bernadette, Clear Lake; Tues. 3/6: Mary Queen, Friendswood; Wed. 3/7: St. Paul the Apostle, Nassau Bay; Thurs. 3/8: St. Clare, Clear Lake; Tues. 3/13: St. Mary, League City; Thurs. 3/15: St. Helen, Pearland. There will NOT be Confessions at St. Paul on any THURSDAY night of a Penance Service.

THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated Saturday, March 3rd, after the 8:30 AM Mass. To receive the sacrament, you must register by March 1st; walk-ins will not be accepted. To register, please call the Welcome Center to leave your name and contact information; you will receive a call to verify your eligibility for the sacrament.

Todos tomarán lugar a las 7pm: jueves 2/22: St. Hyacinth, Deer Park; martes 2/27: St. Mary, La Porte; miércoles 2/28: St Luke the Evangelist, Sagemont; jueves 3/1: St. Bernadette, Clear Lake; martes 3/6: Mary Queen, Friendswood; miércoles 3/7: St. Paul the Apostle, Nassau Bay; Thurs. 3/8: St. Clare, Clear Lake; martes 3/13: St. Mary, League City; jueves 3/15: St. Helen, Pearland.

Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information.

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living

“The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the

faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a

diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have

learned along the way.

Pilgrim Virgin Statue Sign Up The primary purpose of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue home family visitation is to aid families in responding to the request made by the Blessed Virgin Mary during her apparitions at Fatima (Return to God, Make reparation for sins and Pray the Rosary for Peace).
