PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on

order to build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed
more than in word the needs of our people.

Archbishop Carlson has suspended public Masses
in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, beginning March 16,
2020 through April 6, 2020.
Sunday, March 22, 2020
Reflection: The prophet Ezekiel looks
forward to the future when God will send His
Spirit upon those who have died and “open
your graves and have you rise from them.”
With the Spirit of God in them, they live as a
new people. Do I trust in God’s promise
being fulfilled in me with a Spirit of new life?
Psalm 130
With the Lord there is mercy
and fullness of redemption.
Reading II
Romans 8: 8-11
The Spirit of the One who raised
Jesus from the dead dwells in you.
Reflection: St. Paul teaches the Romans that
the present life is an indwelling in the Spirit
of God. This Spirit raised Jesus from the
dead. This same Spirit raises us up into new
life. During this Lenten Season do I look for
the signs of Christ Jesus present in me,
through my prayer, fasts and alms-giving?
Gospel
John 11: 1-45
I am the resurrection and the life.
Reflection: In the Gospel of John, we hear
the story of Jesus raising Lazarus his friend
from the dead. Jesus’ Spirit and life
overcome the power of death itself. In the
conversation with Martha, we hear a
profound confession of faith. Yes, she
believes Jesus is the Christ. Does Martha
show me how to recognize the power of
God’s healing Spirit in my world?
Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me,
bid me come to your side, that with your
saints I may praise you forever and ever.
Amen
Bible Study is cancelled. We will resume
when it is safe for people to gather. We are
currently reading The Book of Job 12 - 18.

PASTOR’S CORNER
Our Lenten continues with encounters we
may not have been expecting. Our lives and
our world changed in such a short time! The
blind person is healed by Jesus’ touch, seeing
the world anew. Are we seeing the world
differently? Thanks to Archbishop Carlson
and other leaders who encourage us to care
for our well-being in mind, body and spirit.
Following these mandates for public
gatherings, our Parish Office is closed. All
non-essential activities are postponed or
cancelled. But this means our prayer for one
another and our concern for our elders and
vulnerable people deepens.
Our Saturday and Sunday Masses are
cancelled and everyone is exempt from
Sunday obligations through April 5. But we
turn in prayer to the Madonna della Strada,
Our Mother for her intercession and
protection. We light a candle at our Mary
altar and pray for the safety and well being of
one another and our world.
Our parish meetings and events have come to
a stop. But we continue to check-in and call
our neighbors or our elders and listen to how
they are doing.
This health concern is part of our Lenten
journey. Can I minimize the fears and
unknowns by leaning on my faith and in the
healing power of Jesus? May our Lenten
journey help us respond generously to the
love of Jesus, in prayer, fasting and alms-
giving.

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson mandates precautionary measures regarding Holy
Mass amid Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic.
"I suspend all public Masses in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, beginning with
Masses following this day, March 16, 2020. All public celebration of the
Liturgy, as well as Liturgy of the Hours, Stations of the Cross, and all other
group services, Bible Studies, and activities are to cease beginning immediately.
The dispensation I have offered for all Catholics in our archdiocese from the
obligation to attend Sunday Mass is now extended through April 5. At this
time, all churches are to remain open to individuals for personal prayer,
devotions and confessions. Caring for both our physical and spiritual health go
hand-in-hand, and the health, safety and overall well-being of the people of the
archdioceses is my first priority." And he recalled his directive of March 15,
2020 to close schools.
Following the Archbishop and the government guidelines, we have cancelled or
postponed all non-essential meetings at the Parish Office. We are invited to
develop alternative methods of communications, if necessary. We invite people
to be mindful and caring for each other’s personal well-being in mind, body
and spirit.
It is important to review the CDC website regularly (www.cdc.gov), stay at
home if one is sick, follow good hygiene practices, social distancing and travel
guidelines from the health officials, and report any pertinent information to the
local health department. The Department of Health hotline is 314-615-2660.
Updates and resources from the Archdiocese can be found at:
archstl.org/coronavirus.
