CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS & CHILDREN
Sending the Catechumens to the Rite of Election
At this weekend’s 9:00am Mass, the catechumens
(the unbaptized) receive a blessing before they journey to
St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton for the Rite of Election.
Presided over by the Archbishop, the rite begins the final
period of preparation before baptism at the Easter Vigil.
It is the bridge between the catechumenate and
purification and enlightenment.
Please support them in prayer as they journey towards Easter.

Special announcement from the Archbishop of Edmonton:
Dear Faithful in Christ, I am glad to share with you the news that His
Holiness, Pope Francis, has named Bishop Gregory Bittman, Auxiliary Bishop of
Edmonton, as the new Bishop of Nelson, British Columbia. Bishop Bittman has given exemplary ministry in the Archdiocese of Edmonton both as priest and bishop, and while we are sad to
see him go, we assure him of our deep gratitude and of our prayerful support. Please
join with me in praying for His Excellency's episcopal ministry among the clergy and
faithful of his new flock in Nelson.
Yours sincerely in our Lord, X Richard W. Smith
Archbishop of Edmonton.

You are invited to participate in the Coldest Night of the Year Walk
February 24th
. The Coldest Night of the Year is a super-fun,
family friendly fundraiser for hungry, homeless, and hurting individual families in Red Deer. All proceeds go to the
Mustard Seed. This is not your normal walk. This is a walk of awareness and empathy. An opportunity to walk a mile in the shoes of the most vulnerable. A meal will be provided at the
Mustard Seed at the conclusion of the Walk. Please register a team from your church at https://cnoy.org/location/reddeer to help us raise our goal of $25,000. Your participation will make a significant difference in the lives of men, women and children in
need. Last year your belief in our work helped us serve over 17,000 dinners and 53,000 lunches via the school lunch program,
while providing spiritual care.
Living in the Word ̶ Putting the Word of God into practice means serving our brothers and sisters in love. To love as Jesus loved means that we make sacrifices daily for the good of the other. This typically takes place by the gifts we make of time, talent and treasure. Let us consider this carefully and seriously. These are God's gifts to us to be used according to his purpose and in keeping with our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ. (Archbishop Smith, Pastoral Letter, September 14, 2017)
