Stewardship Commitment Sunday
November 17/18
Return time, talent & treasure forms
2 St. James Catholic Church • Augusta, Kansas
Stewardship: Fully Alive as Missionary Disciples We have a saying that "all good things must come to an end." As we prepare for Advent,
we must note that our church year has come to an end. The apocalyptic nature of today's
readings should cause us to reflect on this ending. Mark's Gospel tells us we will "see 'the
Son of Man coming in the clouds' with great power and glory, and then he will send out the
angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of the
sky." I think most of us agree that we want to be part of this "elect" that Mark mentions.
How do we ensure that we are marked for that day? We begin with baptism, which is a public
declaration of our acceptance of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and as our redeemer. But we
have to remember the words of the apostle Paul: Faith without works is dead. In baptism we
are called into a life of discipleship. We are called to live out our faith in every word and deed
of every day. Next week we celebrate commitment Sunday, when you will have an opportunity
to recommit yourself as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Take a quiet moment this week to reflect
on the end of this liturgical year and the beginning of a new one. How will you allow yourself
to become fully alive in discipleship in the coming year?

Mass Intentions
This month we are reminded to pray for the poor souls in purgatory. One way to do
this is to have a Mass offered for an individual. Contact the church office to schedule
a Mass intention. Mass stipends are $10.
Rectory Gathering There has been three “Rectory Gatherings,” Saturday, November 10 was the most
recent. Father John would like to thank the following individuals for spending
a Saturday evening with him at the Rectory:
Jason & Kellie Cox, Allan & Susan Smeltzer, Nick & Sarah Hoefgen
Gerald & Tina Weber, Joe & JoAnn Linot, Kyle & Logan Ohman,
Ken & Linda Williams, Leon & Irene Burgardt,
Brett & Bridget Kappelmann, Troy & Danielle Wilson
Each month, Fr. John will host one or two Saturday evening Rectory Gatherings for
registered parishioners. It will take about 38-40 Saturdays for Father to invite every-
one in the parish, so please know your name will be drawn sooner or later. If you or
someone you know has not registered in the parish, please do so, this way we have
your name(s) to draw! Also, if there are members in your household who are now 18,
please consider them for registering in the parish, so that they too can be invited.
Once an individual turns 18, it would be good for them to register as an individual
parishioner.
