Full-time Grades 3K-8 Part-time Preschool, Ages 2-4
Building a Better World, One Student at a Time…by partnering with Project Lead the Way!
We eagerly await the start of the upcoming school year, which will see a continuation of challenging and relevant academic experiences for our students, helping them build relationships, while making real‐world connections! We are proud to announce our participation in Project Lead the Way’s (PLTW) Launch and Gateway programs — hands‐on, collaborative STEM programs for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. PLTW is a non‐profit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K‐12 students and teachers, and SFA joins more than 10,000 schools across the U.S. in offering PLTW programs to students.
“St. Francis is proud to offer PLTW to our students to en‐gage them at the earliest ages in math and science, and prepare them for future success,” said Mrs. Brown, SFA Principal. Recognizing that K‐5 students already have the qualities of great makers and innovators, PLTW Launch taps into students’ exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering – now and for years to come.
Teachers play an immeasurable role in empowering stu‐dents to lead their own learning. In addition to activity‐, project‐, and problem‐based curriculums, PLTW programs include professional development training that provides teachers with support and resources to inspire students. Through PLTW Professional Development, teachers con‐nect with a network of educators across the country where they can share experiences and expertise with those who are teaching the same PLTW courses.
Mrs. Bridget Botto, Mrs. Elizabeth Lomasney and Mr. John Sweeney attended Professional Development training over the summer to prepare for the launch of PLTW pro‐grams at SFA.
We invite you to visit our school and see for yourself all that St. Francis of
Assisi Catholic School has to offer your child. Visit our website at www.sfawolves.org or call Susan Fetz at 388‐7321 for more information.

Dear St. Francis Parishioners,
Good news! It’s time for our annual Oktoberfest cele‐bration, and we are planning something new!
Our festival is in a transition year, and after careful deliberation we have decided to reimagine Oktober‐fest. For this year only, we are going to combine Ok‐toberfest with our annual Back to School Picnic! This will be a one day event on Saturday, September 29, and I am counting on all of you to attend, volunteer, and have fun together as a parish.
At the same time, I have asked the Oktoberfest com‐mittee to regroup, study, and hopefully determine what Oktoberfest needs to become in order to invig‐orate and excite our parish. It will be a parish‐wide event, one that will attract members of all ages. It will be exciting to discover their vision for this important event!
Thank you for supporting this change as we work to implement something new and exciting at St. Francis! Please continue to keep our parish in your prayers. Wishing you a restful summer, and may God bless each of you!
Rev. Carl Jude Hood
CORE TEAM Recruitment We are looking to expand our Life Teen/EDGE Youth Ministry Core Team ‐ our
group of adult volunteers. We have been blessed with amazing
adults already, but are always looking for more help. So if you have a passion for helping lead teens closer to Christ, then this is for you! If you worry that you’re too old or too young or too shy, it doesn’t matter! What matters is your desire to help young people! Remember, Jesus doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.
For more information, contact Julia or Phillip Norton (901) 756‐1213 ext. 124 or [email protected].
God Bless and Thank You, Julia and Phillip

Thank You from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Through the generosity of St. Francis parishioners, St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist many people in our com‐munity this past quarter (April‐June, 2018). We helped pay rent for 13 households, totaling 35 people including many children. We paid utilities for 12 families, avoiding cut‐offs. A family of three was provided lodging for one week. In addition, we provided Kroger cards for 12 families or individuals who needed food or gas. Our members have devoted many hours visiting clients during their difficult times. We are always looking for more volunteers in this mission of charity. If this sounds like a wonderful way to help the needy and feel good about your work, please call the church office at 756‐1213 and provide them with your name and phone number. A SVDP representative will reach out to your about our mission and our next meeting.
Please pray for the sick and for those who are serving in the military.
